...or shouldn't buy in the first place. This is a PSA. A lot of the problems with newer vehicles, say post 2010, are the result of design choices forced upon manufacturers by the EPA's fleet fuel efficiency standards (example: Toyota's decision to replace it's ultra reliable 5.7L V8 with a twin turbo V6).

They aren't because of the EPA, many of the problems described are just poor design/manufacturing

Ford's EcoBoost engine performs phenomenally. Mine hasn't blowed up yet.

The chevy 5.3 with afm is a disaster. They are lucky they haven't had a mass class action yet. Avoid.

No domestic cars should be purchased, Japanese and maybe Korean is what most people should get. Toyota #1 and then there's everything else.

Is that still true? Certainly 10 years ago it probably was. But the cost of the Japanese cars is no longer a benefit. And repairs are pricey

Repairs for domestic cars are still much more frequent, and still pricey.

Toyota and Lexus still rank #1 for reliability.

There are so many interchangable Toyota/Lexus parts the repairs are more reasonable than you would expect also.

I've been pretty lucky. We had two Expeditions when kids were little and drove them into the ground with little issue. Only my 2020 RAM has been a piece of ****

Just bought a 2018 Mazda3. Chose it over a Corolla and other similar size cars for our 16 year old. Fingers crossed...

My lovely blue-eyed bride is still driving her 2013 Hyundai Sonata.
No issues, and the AC is still cold!
Plus the Sirius satellite radio is a plus.
She is driving it until it drops. (Because it is paid for and still runs!)

Mazda makes a great car.I have had three Mx5's and bought my wife a 626. All great cars. Dont see why American union cars cant be as well made. My black Mx5 ND Grand Touring model is even more fun than the 1976 Triumph Spitfire I had in high school.

My wife had a Toyota Sienna. Due to the potential cost of repairs. We purchased a 6yr 100k mile warranty. We never needed it.

I purchased a Tundra and a 6yr 100k mile warranty. Never needed it either.

We had a suburban with a warranty and the covered repairs paid for the warranty 2-4 times over.

Toyota had been great up until they switched motors.
