Guess it depends on your era.

The late 70's was probably the best. I remember Van Halen, Boston and Foreigner all debuted in the late seventies with almost perfect albums

Boston was a monumental success in sound and style from a heretofore unheard of studio band.

My favorite initial release would be Dreamboat Annie by Heart. Not only was it an incredible new sound, the Wilson sisters could play onstage as well. Dreamboat Annie was a much album cover too.
