I like Steve Lehto's YouTube videos, and he put up a great one about a pet cemetery in Michigan which was cleaned up and expanded to be made into a War Dog Memorial park.

These memorials often include other animals who served, like cavalry horses and even Admiral Perry's parrot. The memorials also honor search and rescue dogs, which I think is overdue.

It's not really a surprise, but over 300 search dogs were used at Ground Zero in NYC after 9/11. More tragic,
the US military classified war dogs as "equipment" during the Vietnam War, and so more than four thousand war dogs were abandoned when the US left Vietnam.

Outrage by handlers led to the War Dog Adoption Law, which allows handlers 'first right of refusal' before anyone else decides what happens to their dogs.

The Motts Military Museum has a memorial war including the names and tag numbers for the 4,244 dogs left behind.
