I really have no idea. Gotta buy a few things but have no ideas. Seems like everybody already has everything these days.

I don't like to do gift cards any more because everybody I know already has more money than I do.

It may not win you many points with your significant other, but I bought myself a dashcam on a whim about 4 months ago, and it saved me several significant headaches when I was backed into in a parking lot. There were no witnesses, but since I had video of everything, the guy at fault (not me) couldn't pretend he was innocent. Without question, the best $70 I spent this year.

Depending on who it is I buy event items that they can enjoy with you or family. Concert tickets. Sporting events. Movie passes maybe with a visa gift card for refreshments.

I gave four tickets last year to Christmas show of Trans Siberian Orchestra. Huge hit with them as they would not have done it on their own. I gave a two ticket package to a mother for her and her daughter to a performing arts center with touring Broadway shows. Buy some NCAA tournament tickets for Dallas.

We've started doing this as well. Everybody has what they want, or they'll get it. Concert tickets have consistently been a big hit. Sent my sister's family to the Dallas Symphony just the other night ... something they'd never have thought of, went over great.

At least better than the cologne I'm gonna open from them in a couple days.

You could always drink it. Cut it with some box wine.

Good idea! I gave up on it ever having this effect and have been seeing if it will eventually ferment.

Confessions of a small town grocers son. When you see a dozen of the following in the grocery cart, then the wife has a drinking problem and the hubby is controlling her cash and keeping her out of liquor stores.

1. After shave
2. Mouth wash
3. Old style Vanilla

Filtering Listerine through white bread will get most of the methylating agents out of it. You probably won't go blind for a few years.

Donate to a cause in their name. A cause they would support.

I particularly need something for a relative couple that live in a small town several hours away, so I generally only see them once or twice a year for a few days. There are very few restaurant and store chains near where they live. I have no idea what they do for entertainment. We don't really have much in common.

Hell, these days I go out shopping and I can't even find anything I want for myself.

Yep. I had heard that.

There are sad things you see sometimes when you grow up in the grocery business. Closet drinkers who have a spouse forcing them to risky behavior, drinker/gambler families trying to get the most out of beans and cornbread and you know payday at the factory is still 12 days off, and old ladies buying 10 times the normal amount of canned cat food (they rarely just have a lot of cats) are tough to see month after month.

A scented Yankee Candle and a Nickerson Farms meat and cheese basket should cover your obligation.

I didn't realize this was a regifting thread. I certainly buy cheese but not the other. I never gift cheese. Cheese and bacon are essential to daily life.

Grew up around a large Native American population, and the stores added the old fashioned hair tonics to your list.

I go with Robitussin DM now before aftershave through white bread, but that's just me.

Just in case you're serious about that, be careful. Dextromethorphan can wreak havoc on respiration pathways and shut down a body's ability to regulate temperature. Because the government wants to dissuade abuse, DXM is usually supplied in its hydrobromide (HBr) form. The HBr salt causes heart arrhythmia is higher concentrations - that's supposed to prevent abuse, but usually just leads to complications.

You're not the first person with that idea, and complications are rare. Using DXM under 6 years old has killed more than one person, though.

My youngest is 14 and we only used prescribed medicines outside of motrin in recommended doses. But the public service warning is necessary after my joking.

I was serious about the people misusing the items to feed their alcoholism. I had heard of some filtering through bread. Then they feed the bread to their trio of house mice. Mice make an excellent Christmas gift.

Both.

The difference would be that I might go back and pick up the mice.
