What terrible news to get right before your 77th birthday.

After half a century on the stage, musician Neil Diamond announced on Monday that he's retiring from touring due to a recent Parkinson's disease diagnosis.
Diamond, who turns 77 on Jan. 24, was about to begin the third leg of his 50th anniversary tour. In a statement posted on his website, the "Sweet Caroline" singer said that while he will no longer perform live, he will continue to write and record for "a long time to come."
"It is with great reluctance and disappointment that I announce my retirement from concert touring. I have been so honored to bring my shows to the public for the past 50 years," Diamond said in the statement. "My sincerest apologies to everyone who purchased tickets and were planning to come to the upcoming shows."

I'm sorry to hear this. On a side note. It is a strange phenomena to observe seeing "Sweet Caroline" become a cult like classic at bars and sports events almost 40s years after it's release. I vaguely remember the song in the really early 70s (only because it was one of my parents favorite songs in the day) but I dont remember how much of a hit it actually was at that time. I was way too young to have any awareness of that. Neverthless, from the early 70s to just a few years ago when it came back as a sudden favorite, it went dead getting hardly any air time. Again that is just a strange thing to observe actually.

Grew up on the jazz singer. He was incredible in concert. Hate Parkinsons.

Sweet Caroline was released in 1969 and was a top ten hit for him. Today no doubt his best-known song. I saw him in concert a couple of times 25-30 years ago. He put on an enjoyable show and connected well with his audience (always majority boomers).
