Miniseries started tonight on History Channel. I rarely watch THC these days -- not nearly enough actual history for my taste -- but Grant looks promising.

Anybody else watching?

Thoughts?

I like it! Always fascinating to see how people are thrust into leadership positions that didn't necessarily want them.

We watched it. So far it is an accurate portrayal and we are learning some things we didn't know. Looking forward to the rest of it.

A flawed man, but an absolutely brilliant one.

History will always mark Four Weddings and a Funeral as his greatest achievement, though I'm partial to Notting Hill myself.

Do they have a whole episode devoted to the Miracle on the Brazos?

I wonder how they will handle his last year and transition to the AFCA.

If I had cable, I'd check it out.

It's The History Channel so it must be about the flawed but brilliant, U.S. Grant, scourge of the Confederacy and defender of the $50 bill.

Very well done and accurate.
The thing that Grant (and Sherman) ushered in was the concept of modern warfare. The civilians were no longer just observers and the fighting didn't just take place on the battlefield.
Had they not broken civilian support for the Confederacy, the war could have gone on much longer.
And Grant was dogged in his pursuit of Lee and the Army of Virginia.

As long as you still have an army in the field, you can continue to fight.

Grant understood that, and went after Lee while the previous Union generals preferred to wait until they felt assured of victory.

It didn't cover any new ground -- not sure how much "new ground" there is for someone like Grant any more -- but I did enjoy it, very much.

A couple of notes. First, they got the river wrong, acting as if the Miracle on the Brazos occurred on the Mississippi, what the actual ****? Then they completely ignored "Love Actually," which I consider to be an inexcusable omission, though Sam may think different.

Even so, I'd recommend it. Nicely done.

I hope they at least gave a mention to the heel turn in Bridget Jones's Diary.

And the fact that he's led UNT to 3 straight 20 win seasons.
