The Biltmore estate and gardens can take a whole day to see (book in advance)

The NC Arboretum

The Blue Ride Pkwy drive is a must...

If you are staying in Asheville I would suggest going NORTH which will take you towards the Folk Art Center (as soon as you get on the Parkway) and Spruce Pine (Mineral Museum...not that "rocks" seem interesting but its a QUICK stop with usually clean bathroom and touristy gem mining close by). Not far further out is the Orchard at Altapass which is nice. If you have more time, continue on toward Linville Falls.

Swing by the new Sierra Nevada Brewery. Wow, is that place impress live. Asheville is craft beer capital of the US on a brewery per capita basis.

This is near, but you'd want to go in warmer months of course...

Be sure to visit Chimney Rock and Lake Lure.

My grandfather grew up there before his folks moved to Texas. It's 25 miles south of Ashville via US 74 Alt W. Well worth the visit.

Good friends of ours just used some inheritance to buy a lake house about an hour from Asheville. Looking forward to visiting this summer if the logistics get worked out

You should be. That's some of the most beautiful country on God's green earth.

If you ever have the chance you should drive from Knoxville to Ashville (I-40) in the early spring. It's a drive you'll never forget.

I live in Charlotte, so I go to Asheville fairly frequently. I'll post here to subscribe to the thread, but happy to answer any questions about Asheville. I love that town.

Daughter attends Furman, so when I visit, we go to Ashville for the day generally for beer, but end up at Curate for dinner. That place is superb .

Visited Asheville for a day in July. Cool town. Had lunch at Rhubarb and walked to a few breweries. I'd like to go back for a couple of days and see more of that place.

It was beautiful. Had a great time! Did some fun hikes and spent some time out on Lake James which is right by the house we stayed at.

Just got back from driving the daughter and her car to Furman. The drive from Knoxville TN to Greenville SC was awesome.

Just spent the past week in a rental house in Black Mountain, NC. With Covid, kind of a bummer on trying to get out for food (ate in mostly) and that's a long ass drive from Houston.....

but it was nice to go somewhere and be outside without dying from heat. Had a really good time. Got lucky with virtually no rain the first 4 days we were there. the rental house wasn't great, but it was good enough. actually saw a bear from our balcony one evening/night.
