Hopefully Joey K's has gotten their act together. I was there a few years ago and it was the worst dining experience I've ever had in NO.

That's disappointing to hear... It was great back in the day...

No. I have never been and it has never been recommended to me in all my trips. My guess is you can find much better. Recent reports are Mr Bs has slipped too

Seithers looks like a good little place, but not exactly convenient to a N O visit

Pascal's Manale is good and not far from Tulane. They also have small rooms that you can reserve.

If you are in Metairie headed to the airport try Bears Po'boys. Not only for the name, but because they have incredible po boys (check out the yelp reviews). The owner is the sister of a friend of mine from high school. Legit Nawlins po'boys.

Last time I was near Tulane we swung by a little place called Bar Frances. had a little lunch and some cocktails. Dang good place, on Freret about a mile east of Tulane (between Jefferson and Napoleon)

Anyone have comments on Doris Metropolitan? I've heard great things and we have room booked for 12 over Thanksgiving. Trying to negotiate with them regarding their limited corkage allowance.

Heard it is great steakhouse. About to open in Houston

Personally, don't understand the appeal in New Orleans, but that is my train of thought and not many share it

Ate at Peche last Thanksgiving weekend and liked it enough we went back for lunch the next day. The dinner meal was special. They had a bunch of ice chests out back with all the fresh fish. Had a couple of the whole fish and a couple of the collars. Outstanding!

Also stopped by R'Evolution for a quick lunch at the bar and loved the Death by Gumbo.

Hitting a couple of different places this Thanksgiving.

We've been to Peche before, probably just going for raw bar lunch if we make it

My favorite New Orleans place is Ye Olde College Inn on Carrolton. Hometown insider kind of place. My daughter and son-in-law introduced me to it 12 years ago. (He's a native). It feels like George's, family, neighborhood, great bar scene. . . except the food is excellent. Creole and some great smothered pork chops. I usually end up with shrimp and grits. The bread pudding is the best you ever ate. You might wait to get seated. Worth it. We go there every time we go to NOLA.

Never been in that area, although I really liked the Mid City area last time we were there. Good local vibe.

Back at my office today after the quick N.O. trip. Gotta say, didn't have a bad step on the food side.

List of the vanquished
Peche - some raw oysters and bar snacks including the fried catfish and shrimp toast. remarkably good

Coquette - thumbs up. Did tasting menu and all courses were superb. definitely go if you have the chance

Compere Lapin - brunch. didn't love my bloody mary. food was outstanding. that make a sandwich out of a yeasty bread like a donut, so the donut (no icing) with smoked hamachi on it and then they top it with a whipped cream cheese and put seasoning like an everything bagel on top with a touch of roe. really outstanding. I had homemade andouille sausage and eggs and wife had french toast. the andouille was really rich and outstanding

La Petite Grocery - can't go wrong here. everything was on point - blue crab beignet's, scallops with braised leeks and cauliflower and fried quail for starters. turtle bolognese for dinner. shiiiiiiiiiit

Turkey and the Wolf - greens sandwich and the fried bologna sandwich and the cabbage salad. all extremely tasty. surprisingly good cocktails, too. Heartily recommend

Needless to say, wife and I need to give our guts a break from the rich food and booze.

Let me know what you think. We sat upstairs which I preferred

Atmosphere is a touch stuffy

We sat upstairs and did the tasting as well. Really enjoyed it, particularly the smoked cobia. Would definitely go back!

Also did Cochon Butcher, Commanders (couple we went with had never been and really wanted to go), and Peche. I was pleasantly surprised by Commanders...the last time we went 4 years ago, it was just okay.

Very nice food weekend

This last trip was probably the first time we've skipped Butcher in a few years. Love that place

We always go to Butcher, although we arrived right when the porchetta sandwich special ran out. Was still awesome.

It is good there, but not really a New Orleans originated dish

Keep in mind that I haven't been to New Orleans in 30 years. I kept reading this and thinking why isn't anyone mentioning Ralph & Kacoos in the Quarter. Wondered if they had declined that badly. Then looked it up and saw they are gone-only outlying chain stores left. Sad. They were quite good at one time. And reasonably priced for seafood

Hurricane Katrina hurt a lot of restaurants including Ralph & Kacoos. However, the quality of R & K has gone down the drain before the hurricane. Nothing like it was 30 yrs ago!!
