I've unloaded my liquor cabinet in preparation for my impending move to Chicagoland. Once there in a more permanent basis, I'd like to restart my collection.

  • Scotches: Lagavulin Distiller's Select, Laphroaig, and ?
  • Whiskeys: Balcones Single Malt, TX Blend, and ?
  • Rum: Don Q and ?
  • Tequila: Herradura Ultra Grand Anejo
  • Vodka: No preference, but Tito's is fine
  • Gin: Hendrick's
What am I missing? Well, besides some cash...

Came across this: http://www.artofmanliness.com/2011/07/07/how-to-stock-a-home-bar/

Now that I've read the article, it's lacking at best. Grey Goose? Patron? Sheesh.

I think you need to reconsider your whiskey line

I'd also have a blended scotch for mixing I like Famous Grouse but JW red works, too

Have you tried Balcones Single? It's simply amazing. TX Blend is simply drinkable.

Have you tried McCormicks Vodka? Really tasty and comes in a plastic bottle.

Whisky/Bourbon: Buffalo Trace, Jeffersons Ocean Aged at Sea, Old Forrester, Angels Envy Rye

That'll at least get you started.

Whistlepig is overrated.

Eagle Rare is good.

I haven't had their rye. Heard it was solid. Love Eagle Rare. Buffalo Trace is one of my favorite affordable liquors.

I keep Templeton Rye in the house most of the time.

I have become a fan of High West out of Park City, UT. Their Campfire and Double Rye are delicious.

SoTexBear isn't a got-damned peasant. He's not drinking blended scotch.

I enjoyed WhistlePig Rye, but I am not that knowledgeable when it comes to Rye whiskey, so I wouldn't listen to me there. But again, I thought it was good.

agree, Campfire and Double Rye by High West are both excellent, but I kind of shy away from them since they are made by the big Indiana distiller and blended by High West. I know, that is stupid, but I can't help it.

I'll have some basic tequila for margaritas for sure. Caballero something or other is a good one.

TX Blend does that as well. I thought I read that 50%+ are made by that Indiana supplier.

I've sat the bar in Park City. It's a fine establishment. And they do at least have tanks at the distillery there.

Food is excellent too. Their Dead Mans Boots cocktail is my favorite drink west of New Orleans.

Fun thing about their bar is the crazy Utah liquor laws allow you sample more cocktails. The cocktails have a very strict limit on the amount of alcohol that can be poured in a single drink, so it takes longer to get knackered.

I second the High West recommendations. The Rendezvous Rye is their award winner and the Bourye is interesting. Their Midwinter Night's Dram is one of my favorites but is only released once a year I believe.

Willet Rye is also pretty good. The 8 yr is hard to find, but fantastic. They have younger version for around $40.

Noah's Mill is another great bourbon.

My recommendation for rum is Ron Zacapa. If you like tequila but are looking for something a little different try Mezcal Buenbicho. Both are great for sipping.

Depends on which WhistlePig, IMO.

Agreed on Eagle Rare.

What I typically have around are Eagle Rare, Rowan's Creek, one or two things from High West and a Balcones.

That 8yr Willet Rye is fantastic. Found some at the Specs by my house one day and haven't seen it since.

Just picked up a bottle of Blanton's. I've never tried it. I expect the hype is greater than the actual taste. Couldn't believe I found a bottle. I've been keeping my eye out for one for months. Finally found one in Chicagoland in a grocery store!!!

Bourbon: You can't go wrong with the Russell's Reserve 10 year and the Elijah Craig 12 year, both about $40.

Scotch: I have yet to be disappointed with anything Glenrothes has released. Age and price will vary.

How has no one mentioned Dirty Sprite yet? Sizzurp?

For me, I tend to appreciate a nice purple sizzurp with some of Waco's finest Dr. P. When you need to slow your roll, ain't nothing better. Plus, the purple tinge you get on your gums drives the ladies wild.

Well, for 1 its becoming incredibly hard to find a codeine/promethazine syrup. They are usually prescribed separately now.
Winning by cheating is just as impressive as winning fairly, probably even more so. Your opponent was better than you in every way, and you beat them with your brain.
