Hey never stay quiet. You are trying to help the site grow and that is awesome! There are a lot of readers who don't post so others do see this.

There are still plenty of folks who don't know about this site and what all it has to offer.
Really great inside information. I'm enjoying it

no - they need sports nutrition.

coffee is rank crap used by the elderly to function semi-normally.

do you not realize that YOU are the stereotype your "grad school buddies" were talking about.

you're doing the exact thing you're accusing others of. you complain about them talking down to others then you proceed to talk down to the entire group by calling them "mids," then you to try to boost your own ego by casually mentioning that you went to grad school (congrats, so did nearly everyone else).

a normal person would say "my buddies who went to other schools" because everyone has friends who went to other schools. plus i'd assume that, among the friends/acquaintances you know who attended other schools, you met the majority of them somewhere other than grad school.
I didn't go to grad school.
Does that make me sub-optimal?

PS Undergraduate school (four-year degree) was good enough for me.

How do I get to be a "mid"? After much thought and prayer I ponied up for premium. It's OK, though I rarely look at it in the offseason.

There has been breaking news since 2 am on a Sunday? I highly doubt that things were being done at that time. Additionally if it was news it would be on SI, AP, and ESPN etc. I'm sure it is breaking speculation, opinion and rumor. No offense but it is starting to really look like using realignment issues as advertising for premium.

It's 100% advertisement for the premium side and it's worked as several posters have transitioned to premium membership. Nothing wrong with that but it's clear advertising

I'm also not saying anything is wrong with it. It is just pretty transparent. And I'm about certain it is the same type of info ( which is essentially new speculation) that breaks on Twitter which also is probably not all that reliable. If news broke over night, it would literally be in the news this am when we all woke up. I doubt the new XII commissioner, or Linda or Mack are over in premium running their mouths about what is going on.

thanks osodecentx, appreciate the kind words and support for those that will give premium a try.

We started in 2016 with a little less than 1000 subscribers today we have just a few short of 3000 (2992). The retention rate is over 90%, for those on the fence we have a lot that try it and stick around.

Premium subscriptions are really important for setting budgets. We couldn't do the studio, daily show with David,Paul,Craig without it. You have to have money to pay producers, electricity, insurance, rent, video equipment which we continue to upgrade, etc...

We have a few full time employees, but of the 3 owners (Colt, Brian, myself) only Colt is taking a full time salary. So we try to invest back in the site to give Baylor fans something that most schools are not doing.

Of course, we bring in a lot of advertising revenue as well. We are grateful to those that sponsor Sicem365 radio. And everyone on the free side is "paying" so to speak in the form of advertising revenue from google, Youtube, etc... So we are thankful if you just choose to use the "free" resources.

For Baylor to compete in this new world going forward, we need premium subscribers and Athlete+ subscribers. We give 80% of the money from Athlete+ directly to athletes with interviews and events where fans will have access to the players. We've raised a little over $100k so far. If those numbers go up, the percentage that we give to athletes will also go up.

The Blake Shapen interview on the board is an example. I've been interviewing every player on the MBB and WBB rosters and we will be going through at least the 2 deep on football as well. And other sports. The athletes aren't getting rich off this but they are over the top appreciative. They don't have time to work a side job so the money goes a long way towards them feeling appreciated and valued.

At Baylor, I think we need to win with culture but we also have to be competitive with NIL at least with OSU, TCU, Texas Tech, UH, etc... OU, Texas and A&M are playing on a different level but throwing $50k- $100k at each player (or more) is going to lead to a lot of issues. I had a coach at one of those schools tell me he's scared to death about it- if you have a tendency towards bad habits, more money just amplifies it.

https://sicem365.com/subscribe

https://sicem365.com/plus/subscribe

Even $10/month (plus the $13 for premium) really helps us with NIL. We have 415 signed up and definitely have to get those numbers over 1000. There will be a Baylor NIL cooperative soon for bigger donations but this site needs to do the leg work on the steady stuff.

And it is great content. I'm blown away by the depth of character of these student athletes. I knew it was the case with MBB because that has been my first love and I interview those guys during the recruiting process. But the WBB team has been over the top impressive.

Some people act like they don't want an entrepreneur is or how difficult it is for a business to succeed, especially when dealing with major adversity such as a pandemic, economic downtown (Bidenflation), a government hostile to small business, etc. Just think of how many restaurants or other businesses you know that have closed in the past couple years because of one of more of these things.
Ashley Hodge

as to any snobbishness on the premium site towards the free boards, I can promise the ownership of the site doesn't feel that way.

We believe in free speech so we let folks say what they want within reason. Less than 15% of subscribers post more than once a month so there are tons of onlookers that just read.

You can always put posters on ignore if they annoy you. I have a handful I'm tempted to do that myself!

We appreciate what Jason built at Baylorfans and have been thrilled with the merger from our perspective.

I don't want to discourage anyone that wants to join a fan site. If it provides value, well, go for it.

The internet has forced universities to become more transparent in the way they deal with customers and alumni.
Case in point, the Baylor regents came on this very site and tried to spin that the requirements for being a regent included some astronomical donation and a lifetime of front row attendance at a chosen Baptist church.

Turns out that isn't true. Richard Willis, the chair of the board of regents, ran an online pharmacy whose major source of profits was make enhancement pills and sex toys. So it's really the only source of discussion about Baylor governance. That sort of has to occur in the public eye.

I've been around since the old days. The prior site was just the internet equivalent of a truck stop bathroom wall. No moderation. No management. I've worked closely with some message board owners that have large followings and significant advertising budgets. The problem these sites struggle with is funding. Customers really don't want to pay for bad news. So essentially you're paying for sunshine. Life is great when the news is good. When it's not, well…..

I tell everyone the same thing, the internet was sold as this great democracy of information, now the powers that be have learned the impact, the battle is on for information and thus social control.

We get our politics from the media. And our news from hackers. Pay for whatever you choose, but trust only what you can verify.
historian

The internet has democratized news quite a big in at least one sense: there are far more sources of information. It's no longer monopolized by a handful of big dogs controlling everything that's out there. Now there is a wide variety and, although the big boys still try to control, there are far too many alternatives for the to do that.

Your point about trustworthiness & verifying info is still valid. Actually, it always has been but now it's sometimes easier because of the internet.

NIL incorporated stuff is cool and a good idea.

I don't see SicEm365 really advertising realignment news for one reason or another. Either because they don't want it reaching people outside of premium membership and making unintended waves, or they don't want to be held accountable by making a big deal about it to drive subs and then it not pan out as it's being said. Can't speak for anyone that works at 365, but I'd be wary about anything fed to me anyway. No one should want to be the 2020's Chip Brown. That guy was played like a fiddle in 2010.

Not sure I agree with your last part. I'm a conspiracy theorist(ask me ab JFK sometime) at heart, so you should expect that. If you're saying that individuals now have more tools from which to play citizen journalist, I agree. But I think we both agree there is now more chaos inherent in the news cycle and that has benefits.

But the power that controls the message can filter and distribute more broadly than ever before.
historian
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Actually, I'm saying that we citizens now have the resources to find out more for ourselves, not as journalists but as consumers, although this could easily lead to the former.

We are not as dependent on the traditional media outlets. The monopoly is gone. The sad part is that too many people are oblivious & still rely heavily on the legacy media even though they have lost much credibility. They prefer to believe the lies & be manipulated by the propaganda.

Your second point is also correct, there is more chaos. That's a two edged sword with both pros & cons.

i went to grad school. Twice. If I crank out a thesis, I'd have a Ph.d. That's in addition to an undergrad program that put me at 140 hours for just a bachelor's degree.

I share that because IMO it was a huge waste of time. I could have done two years post high school and then an intense 18 month post undergrad and been just fine. My money is earned on things you can find in a book that is sold on Amazon for like $40.

My advice to any kid that will listen is...travel. And learn some tech skills.

For those of us who have been around for a long time, this is just not true. I realized that a new generation wants it to be, but there is no truth on the internet. It is impossible to find, especially in social media.

Back when this site began I paid and joined the premium board. After a couple years I decided it just wasn't worth it. A few months ago they offered a short term special. I decided I would test the water again to check the newsworthness. But they would not allow it because I had been a member previously. The mods/ owners need to backtrack on that but I doubt they would.
Kind of my experience as well. I don't care to follow recruiting that carefully, which is what most of the premium stuff seemed to be.

'decentex is good people, however, so I think I'll follow his advice on this one.

I tried it during some promotional period a couple of years ago. My impression was anything I really wanted to know about would likely migrate to we poors in short order. Don't feel the need to participate in the very latest speculations anymore.

fair enough, we just ask people to give it a try. Since you tried it a few years ago, we've added a lot of contributors to our team.

Grayson Grundhoefer does a great job covering football recruiting with Garrett Ross, Colt Barber and Brian Ethridge and also filling in on basketball which I cover. Brian Ethridge on WBB.

Travis Roeder and Kendall Kaut were big pick-ups for analysis with football and basketball. They bring a ton of great articles weekly.

During football season, S11, Football Bob, JJ Joe give lots of key insights. I know a lot more about the game after reading their articles in addition to Travis. Jason King contributes from time to time on basketball.

If you are a casual fan, you might be able to take it or leave it. But if you are a hardcore fan, I think you will get a lot of value out of premium. I had a guy from one of the top SEC sites that has 10x the subscribers subcribe to premium and hit me up and said "your content is as good as there is on the market".

If you do Athlete+ and premium, you are also going to get interviews directly with the athletes which is access you wouldn't be able to get from free info.

https://sicem365.com/plus

Jason and our Sicem365 radio crew do a great job with "free" content and we are grateful if you just consume that. It's a virtuous flywheel. Of course, we are going to be pro Baylor and maintain great relationships with Baylor administration. We need to be on good terms with them and in this world of NIL, they need us to. You will probably get more "objective" (there is no such thing as a brute fact) journalism from our Sicem365 radio crew (none of which attended Baylor). But you just need to know that going in.

We give a lot of insider notes on premium on the football, basketball, baseball teams, etc... So to get that access, we have to protect the hand that feeds.

Appreciate the response. Just get so tired of too many stinking subscriptions, in general, though I understand the economics. Ended up adding Hulu + last year basically to get ESPN+ so I could watch WBB. Big fan of the team formerly known as the Lady Bears. Also have BritBox, Amazon Prime, Netflix, and Tidal Hifi, besides fighting the never ending battles with internet service and/or cable/streaming providers. Just switched from Uverse to Spectrum to keep costs from increasing. My current energy plan expires in August and to renew will cost at least 35% more. Just got through protesting my property taxes with Dallas County. Yeah, old man yelling at clouds here... Sic'em.
