According to the athletic, the PAC12 (minus games involving USC/UCLA) had better viewership numbers than the Big 12 (minus games involving UT/OU) since 2015 because the PAC is not relegated to FS1/2 due to having exclusive late game windows. Oddly enough, Oregon, Washington, Stanford, Washington State, Colorado, and Utah each had a higher average viewership with those exclusions than anyone in the Big 12 with Oklahoma State being the only Big 12 program with more viewers than CAL and Oklahoma State and TCU being the only Big 12 programs with more viewers than Arizona State.

This realignment may be the kick in the pants the PAC12 schools needed to start caring about sports again. It worked for Baylor 12 years ago, and that future investment could be good for the Big12. There's a lot of people out west. If the Big12 / PAC owns the entire region, there's plenty of money to be made.

I've personally watched a lot of crummy Pac12 ball after 10pm on Saturday nights just because it was the only thing on. I'd been watching the "main event" games until then, or else I'd been out seeing them live. Keeping the party going usually meant watching Stanford play Washington State until 1am or something.

But to TV, a viewer is a viewer.

Always be leery of Stewie. He specifically picked 6 seasons for a reason. You can guarantee yourself that if you look at other numbers such as 7 seasons or 5 seasons, it wouldn't prove his point. The closest he could come to proving his point is looking specifically at 6 seasons.

He truly is the Baghdad Bob of that conference. When he explained away that small crowd at UCLAs home opener ' because of the pandemic and a beach 20 minutes away ' he lost me.

Seems pretty agenda driven to me.

The U-Turn from PAC In Trouble chatter to Big 12 Is Trash talk has given me whiplash.

Yep. 20 minutes would be by emergency vehicle. Try closer to 30 minutes at best by car on normal hours. Nevertheless it is a beautiful trip

Sometimes it can take over an hour just to get out of stadium parking lot if anywhere near capacity.

This is why the Big 12 should embrace being a fly in the ointment and thorn in the establishment's side. Our conference will never have enough clout or brand strength to impress lazy media people and casual fans. But it will always be too good on field and court to ignore.

Just lean into that and embrace being the chippy underdog league that is capable of and takes joy in beating the hell out of bigger brands when given the opportunity.

Both the PAC and Big 12 better realize that they are in a financial dogfight with the 2 super conferences and if they want to thrive, both had better lose the egos and start working to dominate media markets.
If they reach a union agreement and add San Diego State, they would have a huge footprint from the Pacific Northwest, the Bay Area to Southern California in the west, the Rockies, desert Southwest, the south central US, central Florida, the mid-Atlantic, the Ohio River valley and the upper Midwest. That's about as comprehensive geographic coverage as you can get and it is mostly in states with the most rapid economic and population growth.
I really don't care what the conference would be called, but doing this deal ASAP seems only logical given the conference raiding of late.

And, yet, they announced that negotiations are over.
