Why not Western Kentucky QB Austin Reed? He threw for over 4,200 yards and 36 TD's this year. He threw for 500 yards and 4 TD's in the bowl game last night!

Anyone that has some moxy and can throw the ball on time and on target. I don't care if he is 6'5 or 5'11.

I like the idea of getting back to the Bohannon mold of someone big/athletic if we can't get somebody who is a known commodity as a passer

We are not gonna get a DJ or Spencer Sanders or anyone like that from the portal. Those guys are looking for spots where they are GUARANTEED to be the starter and focal point. Anyone looking at us is gonna see that we are returning our starter, and his coach stayed true to him all year. So why should they risk coming here and potentially not starting? That's why you will see DJ at whichever MWC guarantees him he'll start. It will be the same for Sanders.

NOTE: Reed withdrew from the portal last week and recommitted to WKU. But I agree. He would have been a great pickup.

So are you prejudiced against 5'8" quarterbacks? You do know that the Cowboys first QB was under 5'8".

I had no idea Reed was staying at Western Kentucky!

Malik Hornsby fits that mold I would think.

I have never seen him play, but have read good things about him and several posters like him. I would like to see him or Hudson Card.

DJ U? I think he could be good, or a spectacular failure. He handled his situation about as good as you could possibly do it and seems like a great teammate.

This is the guy I think fits the mold AND we can afford.
Four star coming out of Texas high school
#5 Dual threat QB in the country , which would help with the RVO.

Some have said he is a terrible passer, but he only had 27 attempts last year, awlful small sampling to judge.

AND the big plus is he beat the longhorns last year. Extra points in my book.

Grayson McCall would be my first pick. I would go with Hank Bachmeier, DJ U, or Hudson Card from there. Malike Hornsby would be good from an athleticism standpoint, but we also need a leader. McCall, DJ U, and Card have all been leaders on their respective teams before.

Malik Hornsby?? Did you see him play at Ark this year?? That's ridiculous. Give me Hudson Card. He was the #2 rated dual threat QB in his class behind Bryce Young. Needs a fresh start.

Brilliant…I had no idea it was up to Baylor to decide who we are able to get as our QB! All this time I thought it was actually the player that made the decision on where he was willing to go play.

As mentioned already, the top names (Card, DJ, Sanders) are looking for an immediate starter role or as close to it as possible. Knowing this staff, there's a very good chance there's a QB battle in the spring, which is not optimal.

Grayson McCall (Coastal Carolina) and Luke Altmeyer (Ole Mis) could be decent targets, but it'll be a fight with some SEC schools to win them over. I would've loved to see Brennan Armstrong here, but this season for him was brutal.

At this point we probably need a new offensive staff to attract top portal QBs.

If Sanders were interested in Baylor our staff would welcome him as a starter. If they didn't they should all be fired.

The coastal carolina kid would cost a fortune.. would be a little better than a decent target. Would be among the best qbs in the big 12 next year easily.. but that isn't happening.

Need to get in contact with Sanders. Now has a backfield mate in Richardson who could talk to him.

Card and the Western Carolina kid isn't happening. Might need to ramp up the NIL for a qb who will stay quiet. Aranda and Rhoades need to chill on the control obsession and let it happen. The culture thing is fine but its clear it is too stiff right now. Loosen up, play the game when needed (to get a real qb), and bring some energy to the program.

Can't be a philosopher and strict x/o guy only when trying to mold and lead 18 yr olds. I like the approach but it isn't balanced right now as evident with our inconsistently in motivation and execution.

Whoever they get will need to know they're going to be the starter because i can't see any capable guy coming in to sit behind Shapen

Get the 30 year old man. He'd be great competition and if he's only got a year and wins the battle Shapen may stay. I'd take Hornsby but Shapen would beat him out. Need all the depth we can get though.

I think McCall ends up with Chadwell at Liberty. They're a perfect fit and Florida took Mertz. DJ U as mentioned probably wants to play and not have another guy breathing down his neck. Card would probably also like a place where he's basically the guy stepping onto campus.

There's other guys we probably haven't thought of. Tayven Jackson at Tennessee could be looking for a new home. They have Joe Milton and just brought in a 5* from Cali. Ty Thompson at Oregon. Dudes like that that don't have many reps but were highly recruited and have a crowded battle coming up. Someone is going to get listed as 3rd on the depth chart.

Yep, nobody with any ability is going to do that. They would just shake their head and move along.

Its not just about being confident they would have a spot when they come.. it calls into question the competency of the offensive staff which is one of the reasons we've lost the qbs we have in the last few weeks. The guy coming would have little confidence in the program.

Aranda needs to get it together quickly. Qb isn't the only concerning thing here. Lack of consistent motivation and discipline is starting to fester. The polar opposite of the culture they are constantly harping about.

He's a baller and a gamer. He doesn't quit. And Sanders doesn't slide when he shouldn't.

Proven to be tough.

And he's proven quite capable of completing passers to Baylor players.

Personally, Aranda and Grimes should offer Card or Sanders the starting slot and tell Shapen he's #2 based on the season. He'll have to beat out the #1 thru the spring and the fall. No straight shot to that starting slot until #1 fails to deliver this next season.

Man, I agree so much with this.
I would chose Card over Sanders.
Sanders only has one year of eligibility left.
