Singletary had never been a DC, OC or Special Teams Coordinator….yet you thought San Fran was genius when they handed him the reigns….and Baylor was foolish for passing on him.

Quit blowing with the wind and decide what your hard and firm prerequisites are for promotion in the ranks

We should all remember that each of us had never done whatever it is that we've ascended to over time in our chosen professions….that is, until someone asked us to do it…gave us the opportunity.

Carry on.

Why are people upset about this? We don't need a block buster DC hire--in Aranda we already have what was considered perhaps the best DC in the country.

What we need is a guy who can recruit and teach sound fundamentals, while understanding the Baylor culture. I think this guy fits that idea pretty well.

I don't think Powledge was ever known as a bigtime recruiter.

I felt all along that we would hire someone that Aranda is familiar with that can take on more of an assistant role with the defense while Aranda handles the big picture stuff. People may be disappointed because our athletic Director got on the horn a few weeks back and started talking all this tough guy stuff about how we're going to open up the checkbook for this hire, and that really doesn't seem to be the case.

Because some on this board look for the negative rather than any positive in anything. They would complain if we hired Nick Saban as a coordinator……

And a lot of people are only on here to lampoon anyone that they think is being "negative". That golden helmet dude comes to mind even though I have him on ignore

We're all Bears fans, and no doubt there were a bunch of fans that was hoping for Jim Leonhard, didn't workout. I still think he is headed to the NFL, and kinda happy we didn't get him for only 1 year till he bolts.

Arguably our weakest area was the secondary, well now we have the chef to fix that.
Not too mention his familiar with Aranda, and the type defense Aranda wants too run.

We didn't get the homecoming queen, but I feel we got 1st runner up.

If Ducks are fighting Bears, I'm ultimately going with Bears in the long run!!!!!!!!

What if it's 1 bear-sized duck or 100 duck-sized bears?
Yeah, but I'd put my money on mini-Ditka.

I certainly don't know and it's purely a guess, but maybe the checkbook was opened and offered to candidates that fit that "profile"; however, those individuals turned it down... (Leonhard?????) dunno if he actually warranted it. Pitre tweeted his likes; therefore, let's give him a shot.

Roberts may have cared more about on field production, than players feelings. Who knows. Aranda is a feelings guy. I really hope the 2 new D coaches are leaders and extroverts with high energy to offset Aranda's introverted, low energy personality and style.

Call me old school, but if true this doesn't instill confidence in CDA.

Aranda is also a very successful coach and has been for a long time being a "feelings guy".

I don't think feelings guys fire their buddies. He isn't all feelings for those of you worried about that. He has balance.

Meh, is he really an upgrade over Roberts?
Roberts' firing would appear to have had more to do with cultural fit that performance.

Not necessarily, if the culture was becoming low morale due to a coach's attitude. Then a culture change is good.

Never heard of him but happy because we do need to free some scholarships up to bring in better talent

Like Grayson said - "good attrition." Already looking at the Maryland CB with experience and 2 years of eligibility.
