I think a lot of Ron Roberts and I bet he will do fine, but he is not a good fit for what Aranda is trying to accomplish. There is a fine, fine line between pushing kids hard to be the best and putting person-over-player. Roberts struggled this year, and past years, with the second.

Apparently that's why he was let go.

Do we have any concrete examples of Ron Roberts shortcomings with the players?

Just curious. I feel like I only hear vague rumor on reddit threads or forums and nothing with any real meat. Feels like school house gossip.

I am also curious to hear an example of what Roberts did that did not match the culture Aranda is trying to create.

Also, curious to see if "person over player" lead to more wins and/or more exciting games.

Finishing in overall defense at 60 in the country also weighed heavy in Roberts' transition.

Any examples? I'm curious of some specifics there and how one measures one isn't enough person over Player

I'd like more W over L

No, just heard a lot from people I trust who said there were issues between defensive players and Roberts all year. Even when Roberts started, some people I trust told me that he would not be a good head-coaching candidate because of his "crustiness".

Hope that explains it, Ron.

This is a dangerous, violent game played by men. With Person over Player, how do coaches motivate players without offending them? If coaches are perceived to be too hard, or, not nice, do players run to Aranda and tell on them? Doesn't that give the players control over the team? The problem is, it is a nebulous concept with no way to define it or measure it. It is a concept in Aranda's mind. Does Aranda specifically spell out do's and don't's for coaches besides not cursing at them or angrily putting hands on them? As a coach, how high can you raise your voice? How loud can you talk when speaking to a player? It sounds great. Very Baylorish. But in practice, does it make the team tough enough, or does it make the team weak.

It's really just the difference between Baylor Nation and Baylor Family. With less W's and less blackout unis

I don't understand this obsession some people seem to have with the whole "offending" thing.

Why in the world would a college football coach need to offend a football player in order to motivate them?

I grew up playing sports my whole life. I've been yelled at by more coaches than I can count. I was never demeaned or dressed down in an inappropriate or offensive way. There are plenty of ways to coach, teach, and motivate without dipping into the well of personal insult.
