Tends to make one wonder about their definition of "open". I assume that "open" is distinctive from "separation". Unfortunately these concepts aren't as certain as "drops".

That's a problem if we have the fastest guy in football but we allegedly don't have anyone to throw to….

Takes a while receiving team to get create opportunities for speed guys. If you have possession receivers moving the sticks you draw defenders away for the speed guy to make a move and burn the defense on a few plays. But if you're going 3 and out you can't set up much. His top speed can only help if we get the ball moving to give him space.

Fastest guy (top speed) does not = gets open…. Our WR struggled against press coverage. Sometimes it's better to be a good route runner and sell the DB and do another. It's also about physicality to get open and burst of speed.

Maybe the only smart thing I ever heard Stoops say was early on at OU, he had some WR that was fast but a terrible route runner -- If you are really fast but running the wrong route, you are just getting out of position faster and hurting your team more.

We have to have a QB that can throw a great deep ball to blow the tops off of defenses. How many deep shots down field did we take this past season?

Monaray is so puzzling. He has insane quick burst speed but has what a track coach would call the worst kick ever.

This catch and run against TCU is exhibit A. He initially separates and then just absolutely dies. He's flat out and has #28 changing direction and moving sideways at the Baylor 35. By the time Monaray is at the TCU 25 #28 is even with him. For a player as fast as Monaray there's zero reason he should've been caught on that play.

We scored anyway so it didn't matter in the course of the game, but it's such a perfect encapsulation of Monaray's year. Just didn't have the breakaway speed his flat-out numbers would tell you to expect. He's also not a very good route runner, but that's another issue.
