It's amazing that this has nothing to do with the pending media deal.

It does in the sense that there isn't one yet.

If Washington State knew what it was going to be making in the next deal and felt comfortable that its future revenue would cover the cost of past blunders, it wouldn't be making such embarrassing statements publicly.

A Mountain West school with USC spending habits.

Obviously the accounting department is one of those vacant positions.

When does Larry Scott get sued?

ACC in turmoil. PAC 12 in turmoil. Big Ten unhappy about their deal. Only SEC and Big 12 happy.

Precisely.

Got to think this is impacting Arizona and all the other Pac 12 schools similarly - they just had more cushion going into it and/or did a better job of streamlining operations.

When people start running out of money, a lot of the BS they may have been concerned about (e.g. West Coast culture vs Bible Belters, etc.) becomes far less important.

Why is the B10 not happy? The new B10 as it exists right now is making a little more than the new SEC.

All of their challenges listed are unrelated to the deal in the sense that they are problems period. If the PAC 12 signed a deal for 2024-on that was substantially similar to the Big 12's, these items - in aggregate - would still be a huge deal.

Because the former commissioner wrote figurative hot checks on his way out the door, leaving a TV deal that was neither completed nor worth as much as reported.

That league will be fine. But this week's news does prove things aren't as harmonious there as once believed.

If the PAC-12 had already signed the same deal as the Big 12, we wouldn't know anything about these issues.

They'd still be problems for Washington State institutionally, but they'd be addressed and solved privately through normal budgeting processes. Without known revenue streams to cover the costs incurred by their irresponsible spending, they have no choice but to make and announce these decisions now.

Disagree. WSU is a public institution and it would become public primarily for that reason.

Maybe with a FOIA request. But those don't typically get filed unless there's a reason to suspect something fishy.

There's a whole lot of information that is publicly available on request that doesn't get volunteered. Public institutions don't make a habit of releasing embarrassing information unnecessarily.

Smoke and Mirrors. Google Big 10 deal and read the reports on the reality of their deal.

Still in good shape but the gargantuan dollar figures were exaggerated.

This may be a back door way of saying that it is, that maybe they are expecting a mediocre to bad deal especially when considering the overpayments.

Just read another article that said the Wash St CFO/Associate Athletic Director submitted his resignation in April when irregularities in the budget showed up.

Quite a mess in Pullman.
