Well he didnt know about the hazing incidents in real time. Sort of like Briles and the sexual assaults. Perhaps rather than fire, they just want to do a two week punishment (thus far) for his not running a tighter ship.
To be clear...

If this was a campus fraternity doing the exact same behavior, the students would absolutely be expelled from @NorthwesternU and turned over for prosecution
This seems like a job for @EvanstonPD and the local courts to handle, not @NU_Sports
Sad, scary, & wrong: https://t.co/bDL47kKSms pic.twitter.com/qeLytQuUgx

Statement from Northwestern’s entire team pushing back against the allegations of hazing, which they call “exaggerated and twisted.” They also say coach Pat Fitzgerald had no knowledge or involvement in the allegations. pic.twitter.com/lMOAgCe0EB

Northwestern president Michael Schill writes that he will reassess the two-week suspension for coach Pat Fitzgerald after speaking with the family of the former player who made hazing allegations: https://t.co/y0Fm9RPuVW

"If everything indeed starts with the coach, then NU needs to fire Fitzgerald. If the school really does put the well-being of its students first, then it needs to find someone else to run the football program," writes @MorrisseyCST. https://t.co/TUXhuex7ja

Things are sadly going from bad to worse in Evanston...

I don't know what's true among the allegations piling up, but if even half of them are, it will get worse before it gets better
NU is awesome:
I hope a new staff can rebuild quickly for the school https://t.co/Esr4SHXt1v
Sources: Northwestern has fired coach Pat Fitzgerald.

This is going to keep getting uglier

If it was any sport other than football, I would recommend that NU:
- Cancel upcoming season
- Terminate all team staff
- Terminate any player involved (or all of them)
- Complete ground-up rebuild
It will be interesting to see what NU does https://t.co/DNwT6HHUHL

A bunch of student journalists brought down a head coach that had been there for 17 years that is absolutely insane

Clarification: obvs Pat Fitzgerald did this to himself but students brought it to light!!

Poor wording on my part!

Pat Fitzgerald was fired because America is raising soft and coddled children. pic.twitter.com/0P76CSXMmM

Six Northwestern faculty members are asking university leaders for the hazing investigation report to be revealed publicly, according to a letter obtained by ESPN. They also want the $800 Ryan Field rebuild project put on hold "until this crisis is satisfactorily resolved."

I hate this. Pat Fitzgerald is a good human who cared about his players deeply. He ran his program the right way and has a stellar reputation. I have never heard anyone have a bad thing to say about him. This feels wrong.

Northwestern players going after the whistle-blower and the Daily are only adding more credibility to the allegations. To have a longstanding, "largely supported by the evidence" culture of hazing, you also need a culture of intimidation to hide it. It appears they have that too.

Kinda like going after Jussie Smollett only gave more credibility to his allegations.....boognish_bear said:Northwestern players going after the whistle-blower and the Daily are only adding more credibility to the allegations. By the way, Northwestern football players are allowed to go into the transfer portal over the next 30 days because of a head coaching change. Something to keep an eye on.

Same thing happened with West Virginia hoops.
