Love him or hate him, finishing 6-6 probably gets him another year. 7-5 or better and there is no chance he's gone.
This is probably the worst the conference has ever been and your excited that our head may end up barely above water.bear2be2 said:But we're 3-3 this year, which is the most important thing. Win two of the last three and we'll have a winning record both overall and in Big 12 play. That's success IMO. Not overwhelming success, but success nonetheless.jikespingleton said:
I think we are now 5-13 in our last 18 conference games?
Thread needs to stay open.
The problems that were there when we were 2-4 are still there at 5-4. People are overlooking them because of the wins - wins against the conferences worst defenses.historian said:
We've seen significant improvement over last year and we have momentum. There's no reason not to believe we will be bowl eligible soon. We could very possibly end the season 8-4 with our first ever win in Morgantown.
What's not to be excited about? Especially after the dramatic win over TCU!
Bronco Mendenhall may legitimately be the best coach in the nation. Year one at New Mexico started rough. The Lobos opened 0-4 with an FCS loss to kick the season off. But things turned around after a hugely important win over their instate rival. Tonight UNM notched their first… pic.twitter.com/Yqb3PH4AtE

We need to update the candidate list.
Coach Cignetti in year two at Indiana, goes and beats Oregon on the road.
Just in case anyone doesn't know - Indiana blew ass before Cignetti got there (1-8 in conference)
We are in year 6 with Aranda doing what? Going sideways.
Seeing how its unlikely we can pry Cignetti from Indiana, I'll throw KC Keeler's name out there.
He's older, but has taken all of his teams to the top of their respective conferences and even won a title at SHSU. If he can get Temple to the CCG, he immediately becomes my #1.

I wanted us to hire Cignetti right after our loss to Air Force in 2023. Sure wish we had a Time Machine, but oh well. Right now, I'd metaphorically give my left nut for Golesh at USF. Probably not realistic. I like Keeler except for his age. He's a darn good coach. I know I keep harping on this, but above all else, we have to have somebody with the charisma to mend relationships with some of our big donors.

This is a terrible year to hire a new coach. golesh is not coming to Baylor. Cignetti has a $60MM buyout, so neither is he. Honestly unless Dave gets caught pulling a Sandusky, I think we need to stick with him another year.
Eric Morris is interesting, Kinney as well, but honestly guys of that caliber will be there next year and the next year. No need to make a lateral move.

Cignetti may end up in Happy Valley.
James Franklin is probably gone.
Would you take him?
Yeah, I remember being very impressed with how he handled himself at Vanderbilt. I could definitely get behind him as our coach. Mark stoops and Dan Mullens are two other veteran coaches with similar backgrounds I would look at that I think are very good coaches. All of them have worked and been relatively successful with limited resources going up against opponents with far better resources in the SEC. I just think our board of regents is only going to go for a candidate that can charm them with Christianese talk in the interview. Maybe that's just my own cynicism, but there's definitely going to be a moral/religious component to their searchStefano DiMera said:
That's actually why I brought him up because his tenure at Vanderbilt and Happy Valley has been without a whiff of scandal.
Family man with no apparent skeletons in closet.
He's 104-45 at Penn State..that's a stunning record..and well over .500 at Vanderbilt.

can't we just roll with our coach until or if he's fired.

With a $60mm buyout he's not going anywhere.

Unfortunately, I think you are right. All the top candidates have been poached the past 2-3 years. Other than Keeler and maybe Chadwell, no one sticks out to me. Liberty has regressed 2 years in a row, but that could have more to do with players getting poached and or just the natural up and down cycle of build-peak - bust.
Fantasy land time:
how unhappy is Dabo? I get the feeling he hasn't been happy the last couple years. That or he's always like that and I'm misreading his media interviews.

Dabo's inability to adapt is the primary cause of Clemson's issues right now, so it probably wouldn't make sense to hire him even if he was available as doing to would run the risk of another late career (and expensive) Les Miles, Mike Gundy, etc.
