I'm looking for the least expensive and contractually obligated path to access live sports content. I currently the cheapest version of Hulu. Would it be best to just add the "Live" version for $69.99/month? Just curious as to what everyone else uses. TIA!

YTTV is the best. It's also $64.99 first 3 months.

I do YouTube TV. Easy to flip back and forth between games. Only downside is it doesn't get Ballys Sports for the DFW pro teams and HS Football Championships. But almost no one carries Ballys anyhow.

I use Hulu "Live." You pay for a month (or pro-rated until the 25th) and you can quit at any time. If you do quit, you still have access until the 25th of that month.

So - if you sign up on the 23rd, you'll pay a low, pro-rated amount for 2 days. You could quit 1 second after you sign up and you'd only have access till the 25th.

Use this information wisely.

Besides the ability to quit, I tend to prefer Hulu because of the other "mainstream" TV type shows and movies that are on there. Youtube is great, but I use it for more non-traditional entertainment and Hulu is better for me for content like live sports.

I have Hulu with live tv. The channel interface is terrible, but otherwise it's fine. You also get Disney + and ESPN+ with it as a bundle, which is a nice plus. And because Disney owns it, no carriage disputes with ESPN.

Also no BSSW on Hulu, but I think you have to have cable for that. It's also pretty likely that the Texas pro teams either end up moving off the platform at some point or Bally stops getting into carriage disputes with everyone. Or Bally gets its streaming service going finally so people can watch their product. They are currently in bankruptcy basically for that reason.

If you can, I would also suggest getting an over the air antenna for local stations. Easier to use than streaming IMO, better signal (unless your tv is ancient, there is a tuner in your tv that gives you the best picture you can get) and gives you an option if your internet goes down, which it will. Streaming will quickly demonstrate all the outages and slowdowns in your service that you didn't notice before.

Yes, I also have a very cheap HD Antenna which just sits behind the TV. I need a better one, but it is better than nothing as my (quite new) TV does not get reception without it.

I will also add that I have my TV connected via a wired (not wifi) connection, and before I had a TV with such an input, I used different devices that were WIRED to my router.

Unless you are going for the new 3.0 thing (and I have no idea if you even need it for that - lots of marketing gimmicks for technology that is, at its base, about 100 years old), cheap antenna is fine. I've actually used a coil of copper wire connected to the antenna input before in a pinch. Worked great.

In my case, it isn't really "fine" because I have to adjust the position depending on which channel I want to receive.

I need a new antenna . . .

I've used Hulu with live TV and DIRECTV Stream.

Hulu is cheaper, plus you get ESPN+. It's probably your best bet for college football.

I got DIRECTV Stream just so I could watch the local Dallas sports teams. It's more expensive, but the user interface is easier to navigate than Hulu.

I have a SuperBox. It's a android device similar to a Firestick. No subscription fees at all not monthly nor yearly. You can get every live sporting event that's being broadcast NFL, NCAA, NBA and MLB.
The current box is $329 but thats it no monthly fees
You can get every sports channel every ESPN channel and premium movie channels HBO etc.
It also has a video on demand function that gives you access to shows on streaming channels

The only con is every now and then a channel will freeze for a minute or two. I think that is an issue with my internet connection. A minor annoyance

I was stunned but happy last weekend to be able to watch the entirety, via livestream and with the official broadcast teams, of the most significant college games at literally no cost.

Youtube via Roku. No, not Youtube TV. Plain old Youtube, complete with the ability to skip most of the ads.

Probability of this the entire season? Almost certainly nil. But it never hurts to try, does it?

Nvidia Shield TV FTW

- It has better hardware than superbox
- It's $129 cheaper than superbox (Shield TV is $199 new. You can buy used for $99).
- You can go the legit route or the free route with content.

Back to the OPs original question. If you want to save a ton of money this SuperBox is a option out there for you

I live outside of Fort Stockton and have poor Internet (radio signal from town) and only two network channels on my antennae (CBS and NBC).
I typically have to drive to the Fraternal Order of Eagles lodge and watch it there.

I worked out there years ago, for about 6 months.

I remember eating at Mi Casita and B's Family dining. They were pretty good. Are they still open?

The steak place. Bob's was OK. What I remember the most was that the onion rings were very good and the service was very, very slow.

I've got very reliable internet. No issues whatsoever with YTTV as far as streaming or quality. The 4k stream works great as well!

ESPN+ works as good as the broadcast rig. That is, usually it's a function of the local camera crew handling the stadium. Since most ESPN+ games tend to be smaller markets, you'll get a small "home team" stadium that just isn't built for TV cameras. There's no camera platforms, no tie off points, and (crucially) no built in cable drops. The team has to haul everything out by hand, plug it all in, and run it from a remote truck as best they can.

I always thought those broadcasts should be left to the hosting school's RTF college as a senior project! =)

I don't understand the technology well enough to know why. However, my Hulu would freeze sometimes, but so far DIRECTV stream doesn't. I have ATT Gigapower so I don't think it's a bandwidth issue.
