I'm hoping they show out against TCU. Maybe they'll show up and play hard because they want it more. Maybe?

Great players eventually realize they have have to do it for themselves. In spite of bad coaches.

That's what I saw today.

NIL and the transfer portal have destroyed college football. I am once again an NFL fan. No love left for college football.

Bowl eligibility gone.

Only thing left to play for in these last 2 games is boosting stock for transfer portal and getting off this sinking ship.

If your company was losing ground and you knew your salary and benefits and bonuses would decrease while the ship is sinking, or worse, you knew the boss was taking your best clients/assignments and giving them to his favorites so they could do better in the interim, would you be "loyal" and sink with the ship? Would you take your family down with you to show the flag on the way down?
Or would you put your resume in order?

I hate to lose talent through the portal. But I don't begrudge a young person with a very short chance at their dream a shot at a better situation.

Kids aren't going to declare for transfer because the team is losing. They're declaring intent because they are not being developed and not getting the opportunities they came here to get.

coaches are pretty hip - yes, hip (as in to the scene, man) to the portal by now....

if you're just jumping ship because you're a loser / quitter / malcontent / prima donna / show pony , then it'll show.

- really only works for talented / proven players now.

True.

And not every player who declares will get an offer. That's the risk.

I used to dog on guys for jumping ship, now I can't blame them. I wouldn't touch Baylor if I was a recruit

This athletic department needs a lot of changes across the board

Well this confirms something. Our kids are being recruited while they are our players. I thought that was illegal.

Just like recruiting there are contact rules that apply to coaches. But a student can contact a coach outside of dates and that coach isn't allowed to respond. But it's pretty safe to guess an unofficial representative could send a message. Lots of high value football and BB student athletes have representation so it's naive to think it never happens. But yes, Coach contact is regulated.

I agree. I look at Saturday and the 2nd and 3rd string QB didn't get a snap.

Hate to do this but at VT Saturday, the 2nd got the entire 4th quarter.

It technically is. But like all other NCAA rules in 2023, it has no teeth. Nothing is enforceable in modern college football.

Not just the QBs so I'm not saying a thing about that position here.
It's all the other 21 positions. The 2s and 3s put in the work and it's now when the trajectory of the season is set that you see what you have. Practice and scout playing isn't a foolproof predictor of live game performance. I think boxing out the 2s especially reflects poorly because they're often the youngest ones who you could be making a case for them to stay and develop. The 1s are already decided either way.
