What are we looking at here? 6 years remaining on his contract, at ~ $7.5M per year? That's pushing $50 million. What are the chances Aranda agreed to a less than fully guaranteed contract when the extension was signed?

This has 2-3 more years of Aranda written all over it. This is not the time to suck in football. We've been through that, and I can't believe we are back to where we started in the Reedy, Roberts, Steele years. It's completely unfathomable that our talent and coaching competency has fallen off so much.

I am sad. 7.5 million tears over here.

No clue what the buyout is, but apparently it is something we can't afford. Which is a great disservice to the university. Those agreeing/proposing this contract should be evaluated on their competency.

So…. we don't fire him! We reassign him. We will be paying him anyway. We dust off the Kim Mulkey playbook and run him off. Just like they did her! Put your foot on him just like Kim until he goes and finds another job. Bathrooms need cleaning, concession stands need workers, stadiums be building need workers, and hell Mack might need his lunch and dry cleaning picked up.

Ride him like a rented mule. Eventually he will be willing to renegotiate his contract.

He doesn't make 7.5 a year. The buyout is $12-$14 million. The delay is BMDs want Mack gone as well.

Potential that Dave resigns at end of season to take NFL job.

I pray you are right!! Is there a different number if another team is going to hire/buy him out?

He doesn't make 7.5 million a year and buyouts are rarely (unless you are a stupid aggy) the full price of the contract. Aranda makes closer to $4m a year.

Rhules buyout - which was considered a big #, was about $6m.

As fans, we don't know Aranda's buyout details because they have never been released.

If this is true, this would be the best news I've heard in a while.

Why would Dave resign? Resign means no buyout. No one who is guaranteed future money is going to give up future money unless they are guaranteed even more future money (like Rhule).

There are always negotiations on buy-outs. Aranda has not performed, although he hasn't violated any morality clauses. How many coaches with the character of Dave Aranda really would want to stay after the end of last season and this season? How can a coach who has been reticent about using the portal and NIL suddenly change and bring in 35-50 new players?

If we still have to pay him, make him the defensive coordinator and hire a new head coach. Maybe he would quit.

Probably $0 at this point and we might even throw in some gift cards.

I have suspected your third sentence was potentially going on.

He does not make $7.5mm a year, it's more like $3.5mm. Per Baylor's form 990 for the year ended May 2022 he made ~$3.0mm. Buyouts often do not equal the sum of the annual compensation for the remaining years of the contract.

Yep they employed that trick when I played 5th grade baseball. Stuck me in right field. I got bored and quit.

This solves literally nothing. And it will get Mack fired in the long run.

I can't believe Mack Rhoades is stupid enough to go this route.

A lot of nice ideas but most head coach contracts are written with the stipulation he/she is in a specific position -- head coach. It's typically not a contract of unspecified employment with the school. It's not so easy as just reassigning someone to another position. A good attorney makes sure all stipulations included in a contract are based on he/she continuing employment as head coach. Defaulting on those stipulations usually triggers an automatic breach of contract, often triggering automatic payment of the contractual buyout amount.

Posters that speak to a $3-$4 million annual contract for Aranda with moderate buyout figure ......... I hope this is true, but I have a really hard time believing that Kansas, which is not considered a wealthy Athletics Department, would pay Leipold $5 million after one winning season, while Baylor pays millions less to a guy that won the Big 12 and Sugar Bowl. And that the contract doesn't have a big ass buyout. Maybe so - I hope you guys know more than I do.

Correct. I find it amusing that people think the contract could still be honored by Baylor by reassigning Aranda to the equipment intern.

How about hitting the same pockets that came up with Art's buyout? That vault in the basement of Pat Neff.

We are looking at an incompetent AD who refuses to listen.

Of course that same b a s t a r d ran off the woman who gave us 3 Nattys because she was right.

So in that event, the next level has zero balls and a perverted sense of admiration for Taylor Swift, and really has zero interest in football of any kind, Reverse Cowgirl.

Maybe the BOR can initiate a black ops mission to get Aranda in trouble for something untoward that breeches his contract so Baylor doesn't have to pay buyout.
Edit: This mission will also take down Livingstone and Rhoads.

Mack went to an office, leased by UT far away from the athletic department, twiddled his thumbs, negotiated his TV gig, met with well wishers, kept his mouth shut about the UT Athletic Department, cashed his pay checks, had a doughnut (or two) and a cup of coffee, told his assistant goodby, and went home by 10:30 AM.

Don't make the move just to make the move. Have the new guy ready to be announced within a couple of days, minimize the damage of the transition time.

I don't think this is a real issue with Mack Rhoades. If he errs, it will be on the side of overthinking, not underthinking.

I'm still slightly worried that Mack won't pull the trigger on Aranda. But if he does, he'll have a plan. It may not match anyone else's and it may fail as well, but he'll have one. He doesn't do anything impulsively.

Mack Rhoades is the REAL problem. Thanks for running Kim Mulkey off. Not. Discussing terminating Aranda publicly? Gave Aranda the long contract? Calling out fans? Really???What a classless, clueless idiot.
He should go WAY before Aranda.

We either can't afford his buyout or (more likely) Mack just doesn't care about being competitive in football. As long as the players get good grades, act like choir boys & don't rape or murder anyone Aranda will keep his job. Winning is now optional.

I've said it before & I'll say it again. Person Over Player is social media intern speak for "We are gonna be taking lots of Ls and we don't see that changing anytime soon"

Of course Mack deeply cares about our football success - to think otherwise is baffling. But that doesn't make him a good AD. I think his choice of Aranda was one of the wackiest head coaching hires ever. I'm not sure that choice warrants his termination (yet), but if that is what it takes to get the BMDs to fork over the $s to get rid of Aranda, then I'm all in on getting rid of Mack. Frankly, there's not much the BMDs could ask for as part of getting rid of Aranda that I wouldn't agree to - pretty much anything.
