I remember watching that game and being mildly impressed at our performance because they didn't score more and we actually scored a touchdown.

Between 2002-2005, they outscored us 203-14 in the following four games after this one. Let that sink in a minute. One of the worst college football stretches of all time. 2023 was nothing compared to those loser teams.

The difference is Baylor didn't take football as seriously as we do now in that time frame.

2023 was inexcusable.

I was at that game with my Super Fan season tickets; $95 if I recall correctly. Seats were on the 30ish yard line, section H.

Yes but didn't our green-and-gold uniforms look great!

I'm pretty sure this is the Cedric Benson suspension game.

He was arrested for weed (a friend took the fall) and criminal trespass. He spent overnight in jail.

Mack Brown, being the hard ass that he is, suspended Benson for the 1st half vs Baylor.

Unfortunately, Benson died a handful of years ago (motorbike accident?). He was alot of fun to watch.

He's one of very few RB's that can say they dominated at all 3 levels - HS, College, and Pro.

Benson was easily the best HS football player I ever saw in person. Ran all over my high school team during my freshman year in the 2000 state championship. Dude ran so hard he single-handedly gave three of our DBs concussions in that game.

I believe it.

I had to cheat on this, but his stats

HS: 8,423 rushing 4th most all time, 3 state titles & had 15 TDs total in those 3 games
UT: 5,540 rushing, 64 TD, another 600+ receiving
NFL: 6,017 rushing, 32 TD, another 800+ receiving

Again, just unreal. Maybe Peterson, Earl, or Tomlinson could compete with that, but there are not many.

I do recall listening to a lof games on the radio in the early 00's and if I drove down from Dallas for a game I would usually just watch the first half in the stadium then sit at the Georges tent for 2h.

I'm guessing Kyle Shanahan played in the game in the OP based on the time frame.

Roy Williams and Benson played HS in the Little Southwest Conference, Permian and Lee. Two studs.

But Williams TD catch there shouldn't have counted.

Back in the day when the east side stands at the Case would be embarrassingly bathed in orange for the UT game when the TV cameras panned it. Really bad memories.

Look up Eric Dickerson, I bet he could match up. He was the most dominating player I have ever seen, especially at the Sealy class level. I saw him in the state championship game in Baylor Stadium. It was not a fair fight. He was amazing. I also saw Billy Sims from Hooks once in a playoff game. He was great of course, but even he did not match Dickerson.

Actually, Baylor did and still does take football seriously. Baylor fired Teaff because he wasn't good enough. Chuck Reedy wasn't good enough either. We had a long series of knee-jerk hiring and firing of coaches because we took football seriously and they weren't good enough - much like people want us to do with Dave Aranda today.

The truth is that everybody else that we play takes football seriously too, and a lot of them have far more resources than we do.

We will have good seasons and bad seasons. Sometimes we will have streaks of 3-5 years going one way or another, but by and large, we will be better than most teams we play, but almost never the best of the teams we play.

I hope we get back to the days of being glad when we win, sad when we lose, but always true fans to the green and gold. The players and coaches need our support, win or lose. Our intolerance will never win more games for us. Instead, it will drive people away and cause us to lose more games.

End of rant

Well we did have a 6 year run orchestrated by a unicorn HC who showed it actually is possible to build a national powerhouse big boy football program at BU that was trending even higher when we needlessly ran him off and furthermore participated in ruining his career over a largely manufactured faux "scandal" that was blown out of all proportion.

Anyway, nobody's saying it's easy, but we did have at least one HC that showed we don't absolutely have to be eternally "doomed" to at best having a few good seasons here and there sprinkled in with the mostly crappy to mediocre ones - and he didn't do it on the backs of teams filled with rapists and thugs. Too bad we weren't smart enough to keep him longer.

End of my rant.

I disagree.

Our facilities were dog **** . Schools that take the sport seriously don't have dog **** facilities.

Schools that take the sport seriously also pay their coaches well, which we didn't until after AB got us a Heisman trophy.

We will never again have a unicorn coach. Not many would want to work for Baylor after what we did to Briles.
