B1G will probably get 4 in the playoff. After that, only Illinois (8-3) and Iowa (7-4) have clinched winning records. And if:

Wisconsin beats Minnesota
Iowa beats Nebraska
OhioSt beats Michigan
Notre Dame beats USC
Michigan St beats Rutgers
Oregon beats Washington

Then the next 8 teams in the B1G will finish 6-6.

Crazy that they have never played a home home series with a west coast team.

I looked it up and it seems they have NEVER played these teams??!!!

Cal, USC, UCLA, Stanford, Oregon, Washington, Washington State, BYU, Utah

and only played Oregon State (2x)

mcubed.net : NCAA Football : Series Records : Kentucky vs. FBS teams (all games)

And I don't think they will anytime soon. I've seen lots of talk already about how there is no need to play a tough non conference schedule anymore with the expanded playoff. (At least for SEC/Big 10 teams)
They play their rival, Louisville, and then 3 MAC teams probably.

Yup. And not just for them. For all the big 10 and sec teams. They no longer have an incentive to have a tougher schedule.

Correct, play 3 teams (for Big12) that give you best chance to be 3-0. With 9 conference games the conference already cannibalizes potential wins. Think of it this way. With a four game OOC schedule, the SEC has an extra 16 potential wins that don't hurt their conference record. That's a lot of potential wins that helps inflate SEC records. That's one game difference requires the Big12 to have 8 extra losses because the big12 teams are playing each other instead of OOC opponent.

And with the large conferences you can have teams that play only the bottom of the conference and get good records (Texas, Indiana and probably two or 3 others) and get dominated in their only true test but they are big 10 or sec so they get elevated despite a weak schedule.

Meanwhile, in the Big12, if:

BU beats KU
TCU wins @Cincy
WV upsets @Tech

Then only 9 of the 16 Big12 teams will be bowl eligible, but at least all of them will have a winning record.
