Is it even possible for a school like Baylor to hang onto someone like RGIII? In todays market, he probably would have been paid $8M for one season.

He was on top of the world when he left. I say, no. It wouldn't have gotten better for him with one more year.

Baylor would not have been able to afford him

As far as leaving with one year left, I'd say the result would be the same, Go pro. The real question would have been keeping him after year 2 from another program offering millions.

Such a different time. People forget that as recently as 2009 before colt mccoy's injury in national championship game the big 12 was arguably the best conference in college football. Texas had won in 2006 and would have won again and launched their lucrative network and been happy continuing to dominate. After that sec started to dominate which led to a snowballing difference in money, then talent, then money , and so on. it could have ended up the same eventually but I consider that the defining moment in college sports. All that to say when rg3 was here Baylor very well could have had similar resource levels. And rg3 was very loyal to briles.

Colt's bruised vagina in the National Championship game vs. Alabama defined and sealed his legacy. Much like our own Cody Carlson, Colt had a solid career as a backup QB in the NFL.

A little off topic, but I'm curious to hear more about "RG3 was very loyal to Briles". Has he ever publicly defended Briles? I don't recall him ever saying a word about the whole Briles situation, and RG3 makes statements on just about everything under the sun.

I'm talking about at the time he played, since that was the hypothetical. I think RG3 knew well that Briles's offensive genius was instrumental in helping him become the player he became. The Heisman speech reflects that.

Colt is in fact a strong believer and stand up guy, and was a great college QB. I would recommend his autobiography to anyone who likes that kind of thing.

I've met Colt so my response already carries a bias but he was hit LATE a lot in that game and most of those hits based on todays rules would have resulted in ejections of Alabama players.

I doubt it, RG3 just won'the Heisman. I don't think his stock was ever going to be better. Being the 2nd pick in the draft his rookie contract was better than any NIL offer to date, plus it was fully guaranteed. Getting into the NFL as soon as possible gets you to the extension or second contract quicker which is where you make the big money as a starting QB. We've seen the market value on a starting QB…you don't have to be that good to get $100 million plus.

Nah. A better question is would we have lost him before his Heisman season.

I think under Briles with that offense there probably weren't many better places for him to go. That was basically an unstoppable offense and nobody else was running it at anywhere near the level it was being run in Waco.

I'm not sure about today, but back then who knows.

Once you win the heisman, that's your cue to move on
