Why do Tech fans throw tortillas?

Because pizzas are too heavy.

Tech should get a pass on their tradition

Tortillas aren't like full bottles and cans of beverages.

Only hit them with delay of game penalty when it takes a long pause in the action to pick them up off the field of play,

If we are partnering with the WWE I think we need to let these theatrics stay in place

Tech will only be penalized if the first tortilla isn't delivered within 30 minutes.

It probably goes back further, but I remember that year when there was like a 5 way tie for the SWC championship. Tech at TCU late in the year, I think both sides were throwing them, tortillas all over the field, sailing pasts my head and stuff.

The SEC relented because they tried their best, but they couldn't keep them out. I was a Mississippi State fan before I went to Baylor. We would sneak them in by stuffing them in our pants, in boots, in hats, etc. A lot of people would have huge cowbells for non-conference games and small ones they could sneak in to conference games.

I think the SEC took an approach like some do on pot. Banning it hasn't worked, let's legalize it and regulate the crap out of it.

Seems the only thing that can be banned is Baylor bells, and live bears.

Between this and the "toys" at WNBA games fans are going to need to get pat downs like a TSA screening to go to games….

Just kidding I know that won't happen…. I hope…

Although I did hear the WNBA is considering having no fans for some games to get it to stop….. all 10 fans were devastated.

Mississippi State has been doing the cowbell thing for at least 60 years. Texas Tech started the dumb tortilla tossing 20 or so years ago.

Cow bells are annoying, but don't get thrown on the field. Tortillas do.

Nah. They couldn't find their way home if they did.

It seems like the topic is really an academic related issue.

Tortilla Throwing is preparing 96% of Tech students for their post attendance/graduation career.

I get what your saying….its something actually being thrown on to the field and so is more of an issue.

But I think Tech has had that as a tradition for longer than 20 years. My dad said he remembered something about Tech & tortillas back in the late 1970s…so it could back even that far

Started in 1992.

The day before the A&M -Tech game in Lubbock an ESPN announcer said 'theres only 2 things in Lubbock...Tech and a tortilla factory '.

I was at the Cotton Bowl the year of the 5 way tie in the SWC when they got obliterated by USC and got pelted by several tortillas when they finally scored.

You must have been one of the few left in the stands. IIRC Tech fans were so excited to finally return to the Cotton Bowl for the first time since 1936 that they broke the record set by BU in 1981 for the most tickets sold by an SWC team. The traffic jam getting to Fair Park was so bad that most Tech fans didn't get to their seats until late in the 1st quarter when the score was already 28-0 USC.

I thought Jackie Sherril imported the cowbells in the early 90's

Nope, the tradition dates back to the 1930's.

Maybe he revived it then. They were pretty bad when he took over
