Thru 6 games, our 3rd quarter scoring:

Auburn 7
SMU 3
Sam 0
Az St 0
Ok St 7
KS St 0

17 pts for a 2.8 pt average per game.

Or, 17 pts in 90 minutes of play for a scoring
average of 11.3 pts per hour.

Pathetic. I hear "experts" say Jake Spavital is an
offensive genius. Really?

Tell me what I'm not seeing in these numbers ..............

I definitely knew we have a habit of starting games slow… but I guess it had not clicked with me that we've also been starting second halves slow.

Spavital is obviously an excellent offensive coordinator. We've had a top-25 offense basically since the day he stepped foot on campus.

But we do have to get cleaner/better to start games and halves. Our first- and third-quarter execution and production hasn't been good enough. And we've been left digging out of holes a lot as a result.

Time of possession? Bad play calling? Both?

Auburn 3rd qtr--Auburn received kickoff and went on a four minute drive. Held BU to a four and out. Auburn went on another four minute drive. Baylor scored a TD on a five minute drive. (We did score on 50% of our possessions in the third.)

SMU 3rd qtr--We actually dominated this quarter on paper. SMU had one good drive to start it. Problem was we only scored 3 points on our drives.

Samford 3rd qtr--We dominated TOP again, but we did absolutely nothing on four drives (three punts and an INT).

ASU 3rd qtr--ASU had three drives that totaled almost 13 minutes of the 15 minute qtr. We had a fumble, punt, INT. Two of those drives took 42 second off the clock combined. The other one just over a minute.

Ok St 3rd qtr--Each team had the ball for one drive. Ours lasted almost 10 minutes and resulted in a TD (100% success rate scoring on possessions). Theirs was just over five minutes and a TD.

K St 3rd qtr--We only had the ball for six minutes in the qtr. A nine play drive that gained a whopping 23 yards and a three and out that lost 21 yards. We had two yards for the quarter and lost TOP.

Based on all of our games, if I'm our opponent, I try to win the TOP. Our defense is consistently unable to stop drives. Keep our offense on the sideline, and you should win easily against our defense.

Basically we've lucked out way to a 4-2 record playing un-complimentary football.

What a nice way of saying we suck on one side of the ball. Personally I was hoping our offense would be a little more up tempo, we seem to do better when we do, but I am not so sure anymore. Putting our defense on the field for more plays would be a disaster.
