Why can't she hire Jeremiah Dickey? Dude even has Texas ties. You have to question why any AD would leave a good thing they have going on in the first place though…

I would love Jeramiah Dickey as AD but I fear Linda and he may clash.

Dickey refused to let his vball team play against a school that had a dude on their vball team . He even took that stand during the conference tourney. He stood by the decision even when the team need one more win to greatly increase their chances at making the tourney.

I do not know what kind of bubble y'all live in to think that Linda Livingstone is this ultra-liberal, left wing person. Yes, she is more liberal than Jerry Falwell, Jr. and Ken Starr, but that doesn't make her Karl Marx or anything. Has there been some straying from Baylor's traditional stance on things since she's been president? Yes. Has some of it been disappointing? Sure. But this idea that she worships Bernie Sanders, prays to AOC, and volunteers her time at the Americans for Democratic Actoin is just unfounded.

We need a football first AD. Football represents ~85% of the revenue at most power 4 institutions. The only other sport that makes money is Men's basketball. Take excellent care of football with a small side of men's basketball and do what must be done for title IX (but precious little more) for all the others and things will be fine.

Women's basketball is the fastest-growing sport in America. It will be a revenue sport eventually. It should be prioritized along with football and men's basketball, though not quite to those same levels in terms of coach's pay, etc.

But I want an AD that strives for excellence in every sport we offer. Smart decisions have to be made regarding resource allocation, but I don't think we should be punting any sport. If we offer it as a varsity sport, we should be striving to compete at the highest level possible.

I don't count the temporary bump that Caitlin Clark has given the sport as a long term trend. I'll believe a women's sport is profitable when I actually see it. Until then, women will not watch sports. They'd rather watch women destroy each other on real housewives tv shows.

It's not a temporary Caitlin Clark bump. Girls and women's basketball popularity is up across all levels. The national championship game last year did 8.6 million viewers sans Clark.

Women's sports, in general, have never been more popular. Almost every sports attendance and/or TV ratings boost that has occurred since COVID has been a product of the rising popularity of women's sports. Men's sports have pretty much all either declined or remained static.

It would be really short-sighted to discount this phenomenon. Both the quality and popularity of women's sports are at an all-time high, and that's especially true in basketball, where college and pro TV deals are about to become a lot more lucrative. This surge is real ... and for good reason. There are some really damn good and entertaining players in girls and women's basketball right now. And there are several more Caitlin Clark caliber players coming up the pipeline.

I had the pleasure of watching one the last four years in Oklahoma freshman Aliyah Chavez. That girl is unreal.

Once again, show me the money. I know numbers are up, but it's easy to go from .1% popularity to 1% popularity. It doesn't mean it's making any money, or ever will. In order for women's sports to make money, women have to watch it. And they just aren't. They'd rather watch the Kardashians or scroll on Instagram/TikTok.

Men are not watching women's sports, and shouldn't have to. That's the women's job but I don't see it happening.

Linda is saddened to hear her top pick has chosen instead to be the new CEO of used-to-be Christianity Today. https://www.christianitytoday.com/news-releases/christianity-today-appoints-dr-nicole-massie-martin-as-president-ceo/

I seem to remember Bu having what.. the fourth best program in the history of the sport. Brilliant timing to scrap it just as the trend you mentioned was taking place.

I know the issues with KM and cash sunk (in the past) but I agree need to bring back the program to an elite level.

It's not going to be. Professional women's basketball has been a welfare case since the WNBA was founded 30 years ago.

Just the way it is.

In July of 2024, the WNBA signed an 11-year $2.2 billion TV deal with ESPN and signed a separate deal this September with USA's parent company that expanded on the 11-year, $200 million deal it inked with them around that same time.

At at the college level, women's basketball was a significant driver behind an eight-year, $920 million deal to continue carrying 40 NCAA championships (21 women's and 19 men's events). That contract, finalized in 2024, was worth three times more than the previous deal.

Those of you that think women's basketball remains an afterthought in the national sports consciousness haven't been paying attention. The sport is gaining legitimate traction, and both TV ratings and live attendance are bearing that out.

You can't trick people into habitually watching things they don't want to watch. Women's basketball has been marketed just like every other sport on the planet. But the rise in viewership, television value and in-person attendance tells an obvious story.

You Title IX-hating boomers can deny the reality of it all you want. But the surge in popularity is real, and it's not going anywhere anytime soon.

The NBA has waaaaaayyyyyyyy more inventory, so a direct comparison is silly on its face. But I wasn't making a direct comparison. Of course, an established men's league is going to be more successful than a women's league that has existed for less than 30 years.

The point is the rapid growth that will only continue as the quality of play and marketing continue to improve.

People forget really damn quickly that the NBA finals were shown on tape delay less than 50 years ago. Give these women time. The revolution that has started with Caitlin Clark is only in its infancy and will continue with the players behind her.

Women's basketball is here to stay ... and I'm saying that as someone who was never a fan of the sport until recently. The current product is better than it's ever been, and viewing audiences are responding accordingly.

I can do all of those things. And so can a lot of men who consume the sport now that didn't/wouldn't five or 10 years ago. That's kind of a huge part of the sport's popularity growth.

All of these viewership statistics are readily available. You sound like a flat-earther trying to discount them.

You don't understand how poor the level of play in women's hoops is. When I was in college, we used to play pick up games. We were hacks. Some played in high school, some had never played it as an organized sport or been coached. The women's team starting point guard would come to play with us because it was a higher level of competition than what she faced in practice.

That's why organized mens high school teams beat women's olympic teams.

Your local Golden Gloves heavyweight would beat the hell of Vasiliy Lomachenko, too. That doesn't make him a better fighter.

The reason people watch women's sports -- or youth sports or high school sports or sub-heavyweight boxing/MMA -- at the highest levels is to enjoy their skills relative to their peers. No one thinks Caitlin Clark or Paige Bueckers are consistently getting their shot off over a 6-foot-3 dude with twice their vertical. That doesn't mean they're not elite at what they do.

And whether you enjoy or respect it or not, they've quite clearly become a ratings draw for their sport.
