I'm as disappointed as anyone with this season as well as every other CDA led season other than 2021 and 2024, but let's not get completely carried away - we're still a far cry from Kevin Steele days.

Again? You mean still.
We've sucked for a long while, just not as evident because much of our competition has sucked worse.
Sure we've had some really quality players but overall a sucky product ... which falls to CDA.

clown ass take: Most of Dave's tenure has been a disappointment by Briles-era standards. By Steele-era standards, Dave is a HOF Coach.

We throw out the seasons where Dave was playing with someone else's players. The trend has been down and it's going to get worse. We are headed for Steele.

Steele's record: 9-36 with 1 conference win.
Aranda's record: 36-36 with a conference championship and a Sugar bowl win, both of which were part of Baylor's only 12 win season.
Are you a Reverend in the Church of Clown Ass Takes?
edit: and to make it clear for your holiness - I think Dave needs to go at this point. But comparing him to Kevin Steele is legitimately stupid on the basic facts. Steele never went bowling - Dave's been to 3 bowls and one was a NY6 bowl that he won. At his 1:4 W:L ratio, Steele would have had a literal gross of losses to get to Dave's win total, as disappointing as that has been in context.
TLDR: I think Baylor should part ways with Dave, but comparing him Kevin Steele is an insult to Baylor, Dave, and basic common sense.

JT Woods & Ty Thornton were major contributors. Several other players were also big pieces. BUT:Rhule gets a portion of the credit for '21...but Dave and his staff get the lion's share without question. Later disappointments don't erase the facts that (A) 2021 was Baylor's best year in Football all time, and that (B) Dave gets a lot of credit for that.
- Without Apu Ika, Jacob Gall, Dillon Doyle, and Drew Estrada 2021 doesn't happen, flat out
- Same goes for moving Pitre to his natural spot and slimming him up for more speed and burst
- Same goes for moving Abram Smith from LB to RB
- The Defensive players all had 2 years with Roberts & Aranda...they were well developed during that time as the April 2022 Draft showed.
- Bohannon started, but without Shapen stepping in at crucial times, we don't have the same record.
He also gets the bulk of the blame for everything that went wrong after '21 (pending a post-Rhoades post mortem, his share may have to be reevaluated).
The Bad doesn't cancel the Good, nor vice versa.

And really, if Steele inherited what Aranda did, his record would be better as well.

We'll never know, but even with the questionable decisions Aranda has made he is still not in the league of Steele calling a running play with just seconds left in a game inside the UNLV 5 to score another TD and to create an attitude or whatever he called it when all we needed was to kneel the ball. Hopefully you all know the story...we fumble and UNLV picks it up and runs the length of the field to win the game.
Has to be the most colossal coaching decision screw-up in Baylor football history. So, don't give Steele too much credit for being able to have a better record. I would have to see it play out.

Literally no one game planned around Doyle and he was a liability in coverage. He was mostly a rah-rah guy and run stuffer.
Estrada is not and never was a game breaker and it's weird that you're talking him up as though he was. A contributor sure, but he's not Ja'marr Chase.
Abram Smith started out as a RB until he blew out his knee in spring practice during his freshman year. He didn't have the quickness to return to RB right away.
We simply got lucky that no one had any tape on Shapen at the time. But it also helps that he had an all-American defense to bail him out.
Aranda's contribution to the defense was mostly bringing over Ika, and that's pretty much it for the most part.
