Thee did come to Baylor for the football. It's probably the only way he could get in. You know…..those pesky academic requirements that didn't apply to him because he was such a stud (and still thinks he is…lol).

Any Baylor fan slobbering over Art would hate him to this day if he'd have left us for UT in 2015 there is zero doubt about that, but they tell themselves otherwise because acknowledging he never felt total loyalty to Baylor would take all the wind out of their "WE DESERVE THIS FOR WHAT WE DID TO ART" self-flagellating bull*****
The man brought a Heisman Trophy, a new State of the Art Stadium, and a couple of Big 12 titles to Waco.
For those of us who followed loss after loss in buried in the back of the box scores in the sports section for a decade, that was practically as unbelievable as Baylor winning a national championship would be in 202x.
Then there are people who are just ungrateful.
I'm a middle aged Waco-native Baylor grad (4-6 generations of Baylor alums depending on if I get to count extended family). I'm very well aware of Baylor's historical standing in College Football. So yeah, there's zero question that Art accomplished things that seemed impossible at Baylor. He's a first ballot HOF coach on a purely football-related analysis.
But Drayton McLane brought a new state of the art stadium, full stop. Art was not performing miracles in a vacuum - he had unprecedented levels of support for a Baylor coach. That support began forming well before he hit his peak: Art's folksy brand of Texan played perfectly with our biggest donors, and they were already supporting him in a big way even before Robert won the Heisman.
What Baylor football needs right now isn't Art Briles, but rather full buy-in from our wealthiest alumni. Their collective clout and resources are a massive part of why Art succeeded here, and their potential benefaction is huge part of why Matt Rhule, Joey McGuire, and Dave Aranda all wanted to be coaches here.
Art Briles looks really happy to be a college head coach again.

Can’t wait to see who he brings to Eastern New Mexico to be on his staff.
I’m sure it will include some former players! pic.twitter.com/d8tLQc6ObZ
Shaking hands with CAB yesterday at DFW gate D12, my main thought was, " There's no way this man is anywhere near 70 years of age." JFWIW.boognish_bear said:
I will be curious to see what happens with Briles in the next couple of years. ENMU was able to make this hire without the social media backlash we've seen in prior attempts.
Obviously…it being D2 is probably part of why it's not getting as much attention.
I am curious if doing this job for a couple of years will "sanitize" him to where an FBS program will take a shot.
Of course… he is getting up there in age... but we have seen some coaches go well into their 70s.
I texted Briles late this summer that he saved my life. I’m grateful he gets to do that for other college athletes at @ENMUFootbal! #LetThatDogHunt https://t.co/C5AjEzW1oM

No, you and many other circle jerk experts continue to read my factual warnings about this horrible psychological millstone you boys have taken on.
There's absolutely no "horrible psychological millstone" we've taken on.
UNT 52, Baylor 14 was a millstone.
UAB - a school that went on to cancel its football program for a while - 56, Baylor 14 was a millstone.
A&M 73, Baylor 10 was a millstone.
That pair of 62-0 losses to Texas were millstones.
Remember the phrase "Cal scores again." May it haunt your dreams. Some of you had selective memories.
Baylor Bear Football teams spent the better part of a decade humiliating the institution every time they stepped on to a football field. We stuck around through that. We finally got relief, and for absolutely no good reason a dysfunctional administration blew it up.
Pretty amazing how a very large private school with lots of successful alumni that is located smack dab in the center of some of the best football recruiting grounds in America could be so bad at football for so many decades
And not like get beat by ut-Austin bad….but like get beat by 3rd tier programs from other states who close down their own football programs bad
Did you come to Baylor/Waco for football? If you did you got what you deserved.
Good point. And I certainly did not
My Dad went here (and lots of other family)
So football was not a priority for me to enroll
But I will always be shocked at our underachieving…compared to great recruitment location, school-academic quality, and now high level facilities

We'll maybe you fibbed about about being a blue chip committed to Texas. You've bragged about it numerous times on this board.
Kinda like your college entrance scores maybe?
Don't worry about it. It's hard for you to keep up.

We've seen him announced for coaching gigs a few times over the years...then the social media tempest starts and the team backs out.
It's been 10 years now...hopefully there is no blowback and they let the man be.
About four of our former Regents are crying and two are calling WSJ

I have a question if briles would've ended up taking the Texas job after the fiesta bowl would everyone still love him like they do now ? He would've took all recruits and coaching staff with him leaving us high and dry and back to being ass

What value is it to die with Baylor? Life's too short. It's no fun and just makes BFans miserable. Art's fun and he wins. Baylor is a loser and after the LL letter, is a laughing stock around the Nation.

Interesting article.
Says if we had beat UCF in Fiesta he probably would have headed to Austin to take UT job

From what I remember, the team played that night like they knew.

But he didn't when he had the opportunity and THAT is the point

The apologists can't and won't answer this.

BearN, you're so unhappy, so you have to vomit all over the freeboard? It's not working. Tell us again how lucky you are to have LL and the Frowning Man back.
Are you familiar with the term "moot"? Apparently not.Wacoraisedbear said:

Even if true, they wouldn't have the combined effect of a peashooter on an Abrams tank as far as ENMU is concerned.Aliceinbubbleland said:boognish_bear said:
