WTAF?
I wonder if that is actually an option.
If it is, and SMU goes on to lose, then I say you've at least got to strongly consider it.
There'd be a ton of teams tied at 6-2 for the 2nd slot, and a garbage tiebreaker would essentially determine the 2nd title game participant. So it's not like you would be messing over a team with a clear-cut better conference record (Tiebreaker probably should have been the highest ranked team in the group to begin with).
With The UNT/Tulane winner all but guaranteed of getting the G5 slot, the last thing you'd want is for 7-5 Duke to somehow get into the title game and win next week, which would possibly allow for the potential Sun Belt Champ (11-1 James Madison) to get in over the ACC Champ due to being a higher ranked team in the CFP Standings. Even 10-2 UNLV could be in the mix if they get in the MWC Title Game and win.
At least if it's UVA/Miami, the winner is guaranteed a CFP Slot.
Then again, maybe the ACC deserves this after trying to game the system like the SEC routinely does, by only scheduling 8 conference games.
I'm still pulling for the Ponies, but won't lose any sleep if the ACC has to squirm in their chairs while watching Duke/UVA next weekend.
