I get the coach-speak angle, but he shouldn't have said it publicly. He sounded like a clown who doesn't know what he is doing or talking about. Which brings me to the question I have asked several times in other posts... just based on his press conferences (and even his initial interviews), how is he the head coach of a Big 12 football team? Word salad every single time...

the quirkiness of rhetorical instinct/charisma is one of his major problems in connecting with our boosters, I suspect.

Famously he said we had "championship talent" in early 2023 season and got blasted for it. That was just coachspeak IMO, but really really poorly timed and deployed.

The problem is that we're signing one OL, one DT, and one EDGE.

Finding receivers in the portal is easy. It's incredibly difficult to get good line talent and we're going to have to spend a FORTUNE to make ourselves decent. Not stocking up on the lines will cost us for years to come.

Good thing that we have a defensive guru who excels at developing talented recruits from past years...... oh wait.

A not bad class isn't a good class, let alone an outstanding one like we had before signing day. But maybe BU is really just a not bad university.

So the kids they signed are crap? Good to know...SMH

You tell me. I merely quoted your "not bad" comment. Please tell me you aren't a Baylor grad. Please.

Asking you because you seem to have a problem with my post. So are you going to answer or continue to dodge?

There is this defensive guru in central Texas I highly recommend.

lol could be a lot worse - we could have fired Dave with no obvious replacement lined up:

I bet Penn St reaches a 10 win season before we do

Quite possibly - certainly their resource advantage over us would indicate it's likely. But look at post-Mack Brown UT.

Big Game James has had bad 'luck' in big games for whatever reason...but he's overall a really good coach (obviously earns deep loyalty from his players/croots). Wouldn't be surprised if PSU wanders in the wilderness for a half-decade or so after firing him so early in this season after the last few seasons were pretty solid.

Nebraska and Bo Pelini have entered the chat.

When you look at our history OVERALL, Baylor would be looked at by a casual, unbiased observer as "not bad". Sure we have had our peaks and deep ruts, but overall the consistency to sustain a high peak has never been there long enough to call Baylor overall "good". Some could have called it "bad" in our worst years and they would be correct, but if you look at the last 60 years or so, the only true description if you had to average it out, I think most people would say......"not bad". The lows have cancelled out the peaks to leave us at that average.

Reasonable.
Today the "playing field" has dramatically and historically changed. I'm afraid the decade in front of us will be a true judge. With Baylor's Administration, the Baptist church BOR, NIL and CFB landscape I'm really not optimistic for BU's future. REALIGNMENT is a hard thought to ponder in your mind. Can we make improvement enough, AT THE RIGHT TIME, to roll forward? That will be the deciding factor of "good or not bad".

We cannot possibly win our way into an assured spot after the next round of realignment. The only way we are going to get pulled into the final cut of realignment is going to be if there are enough eyeballs who care about Baylor football watching games to make it worthwhile for the networks to pull us in. There will not be a sitting governor there to rescue us this time. The only way to build enough interest in Baylor football between now and the next round of realignment is to firmly establish ourselves as an exciting brand of football to watch. I think we're pretty much screwed.

Of more interest, how did the ENMU Greyhounds do today?

12/3 was just the early signing period. They are no doubt, pumped. Art's gonna be just fine. He's getting his guys. 1st the framework, a stud dual threat QB. Then a couple of speedsters at receiver, a tough RB, then a left OT. He'll hire a DC and say handle it.
I predict they'll be expanding the little stadium for '27

Expansion from a roping arena to a horse training facility or real greyhound track.

With the current landscape of $$$ to play you guys think any D2 or D3 school is going to flourish? I suppose if you are sending your kids to Sul Ross Normal College it might matter to you. I hear their bull riding is top notch.

Sul Ross has gotta heck of a nice baseball field thanks to Herb Kokernot.

Oh, so far as Briles is concerned, We'll see. Maybe he'll "phoenix" his way out of the wilderness; maybe he'll coach his way out of the NM one. Seems foolish to bet on either and a waste of time to tie one's ego to the story. Timbear needs a new mental focus.

We will eventually purge this board of Eastern New Mexico trailer trash once they get that Greyhound Bulletin Board operational. Some of the flagellation crew needs to get out there and get that thing cranked up.

Of course the Sic 'Em entertainment value will suffer a while as those we make fun of and laugh at pull up stakes and catch that prairie schooner headed West. Giddy up. Git along little dogies.

Excellent!

We'll have plenty of you boys to make fun of, laugh at and entertain us.

Why wait? Does ENM have a basketball program?

Not bad, just small is the perfect slogan for delusional Coach Mouse and his now very quiet supporters. Support the university, team. What happened to recruiting class? He lost the 4 top players, one of whom went to Ok State, who has not won a conference game in three years. And he lost one to lowly Rice.

This.

In 2025, a head coach must be able to sell the program to rich people. If he cannot do that, the likelihood of success drops.

I never really though I'd say this, but I wouldn't mind if our next coach was a CEO Mack Brown type who in his heyday was very adept in connecting with people-and money.

We don't need to beat a dead horse. Objectively not a single person who has been paying attention thinks anything about the present trajectory (this class included) gives us any reason to hope for a brighter future for Baylor football.

Dave is the bad coach most of us figured him out to be 2 1/2 seasons ago. Almost everything the "gloom pumpers" said would happen has happened. We now find ourselves in a situation almost worse than the Briles fiasco.

Dave managed to put together one 6 week run of good football since the start of the 2022 season. Thats it. Thats the standard we are all being told is "sufficient".

I have a feeling "not bad, just small" is how a lot of things get described in Dave's life.
