Sorry If Already Posted…but Ross's xeet captures the perfect set of bullet points to demonstrate what's wrong with our beloved sport.

We need collective bargaining like a Tech freshman needs a penicillin shot!

And yet the TV and merchandise revenue continues pouring in.

The sport is rapidly moving into a full professional league posture. There are more football fans that are not college football fans than the other way around. They will buoy a select number of teams but they won't be college teams.

The "college football" moniker and ties to the universities will be a historical footnote for what is otherwise a profiessional league like the NFL, AFL, XFL.

What are the academic eligibility rules (if any) in this brand new world of hired-gun-will-travel football players?

Forgive me for being cynical, but I have a tough time believing all these players who play football every fall then school hop every spring are passing the old requisite 24 (or whatever it was) hours of classes per year to stay eligible.

Nah, thats crazy talk. There is only fan interest bc of the schools. If they take that away then it will kill the sport. Also, if they leave out too many teams it will also kill interest. Will you start cheering for A&M or Texas if those are the only 2 Texas teams that make it to the hypothetical next round of alignment? I think they have to keep like 72 or so teams so that most all of the p4 teams can still stay or there will be massive loss of fans if they make the cut 32.

I think a certain amount of financial and operational distance from the universities is inevitable, as is the infusion of investment capital. The only question we have to answer is "will we be a part of that?"

I thought the answer might be to have one group that is all about the money, probably 32 teams, and let them have a super league that is fully professional. Then form a different league that has very strict rules on amateurism and compete in that league. But the talent would just get poached every year from the amateur league. I think this will inevitably destroy the sport and interest in it.

Obviously, CFB always been the primary feeder for the NFL. So what form the Minor Leagues take:
  • will NFL teams directly seek ownership stakes in CFB programs as minor league affiliates?
  • whether or not the affiliate/farm system model is used, will the tiers be constrained to the same # of teams as in the NFL?
  • will the same collective bargaining agreements apply to all the tiers?
  • etc etc etc
