Baylor will not be fined for failing to fill in for other teams that didn't play. It is very likely players have scattered and moved on. They have known for 2 weeks there was no bowl game. It is difficult to gather everyone back to play a game they hadn't planned on. Last year LA TECH was added as a last-minute addition. It was easy for them because they are on the quarter system and the players hadn't scattered. I would have liked to see them play, but with all the drama lately, the decision was probably a good one to just move on to next year.

So overall is the blame on the new NIL world landscape?

I mean I really wanted them to accept and am bummed they didn't. realistically, they are down two coaches, their best players are preparing for the senior bowl & draft, their signing day was a bust & the portal opens in a month. unfortunately atp it would likely just be an embarrassing waste of time.

Is it the decline of college football, or potentially the start of the decline of the number of college football teams? TV ratings for college football are the highest in 20 years.

I don't know what BU needs as an AD, but we do know they need money, or at least money for football.

I highly doubt this was Doug McNamee's decision. you say no bc you were not expecting to get an invite and have already begun postseason work, including: making personnel decisions, dismissing unsatisfactory players, preparing for the portal, and more. on top of that, the team was almost certainly released for the semester. and the cherry on top: I would bet that MAYBE 50 Baylor fans would show up in Birmingham. Out of state, last-minute, g5 team. Recipe for disaster for a team already struggling to get fan support. it's a disappointment solely because they should have been bowl eligible to begin with.

no, KSU & ISU declined. UCF was asked before Baylor and also declined. Kansas declined as well.

The norm is a 500 record Meaning at least 6-6 which we do not have. A bowl game generates money for the university plus a way to recruit potential players/student athletes. What AD says no. Literally no idea what would happen if we run out of 5-7 teams because it’s not codified in the D1 Manual, but for whatever it’s worth, Bill Belichick’s North Carolina Tar Heels do have the highest Academic Progress Rate amongst 4-8 teams. 👀
