I hurt for him. Going into this season, there was so much optimism and potential. Sawyer started strong and gave his all to Baylor football. He is a terrific human being, player, teammate, and leader, but his performance faltered. All the magic of his comeback drives seemed to fizzle, and he pressed. He could not be the defensive line.

But what performances he gave us -- the 6-game win streak in 2024 and the 300-yard passing per game in 2025. and comebacks in 2025 only to fall short.
I hope he drafts well and does well.
What a quality QB and human being!. Thank you, Sawyer.

Sawyer is awesome.

His talent was squandered by an inept staff/program. Shame on them.

He kept Dave's hot seat from turning into an inferno. The dude is a player but I thought he had too much tunnel vision, never ran or was taught not to run outside the pocket, and the yips was a big issue for him on occasion.

What hurt him more than anything was the lack of a running game and his own injuries. But for those things despite the defensive train wreck, we would have had a record similar to last year and his stats would have been so good he would have gotten a lot of national attention.

This. If we had been able to run the ball the way we were in 2024, Sawyer would have been awesome.

But our inability to stay in front of the chains and push the pile in the red zone left him trying to do way too much every game.

He probably threw at least 10 too many passes per game this past season. But it was out of necessity because we couldn't get yards on the ground when we needed them.

Sawyer's lack of a run game was disappointing to say the least, but I chalk that up to Spivatal's air raid offense and a lack of designed runs for him. However, it would have been nice to see him escape the pocket more instead of trying to force throws when nobody is open. I think his biggest concern going into the draft is his arm strength and deep ball accuracy. He's been the best thing to happen to this program since the 2021 season, so I wish nothing but the best for him!

I have been skeptical about the Heisman and NFL first round potential talk I saw this year. I still am. But today on Good Morning Football the Senior Bowl guy was calling him the best pure passer of the bunch. He had high praise for him. Just being on the Senior Bowl roster means there are definitely scouts very high on his potential.

OK, nice to hear. I had him pegged as a late rounder or UDFA but not because of physical traits, but more the mental game and transition to the NFL.

We'll see, but I hope he finds a good situation and a chance to develop for a couple of years on a solid roster with a good qb coach.

If you were one of the coaches for Baylor , would you have let him run the ball ? Without Sawyer this offense was dead on arrival. He gets injured and the entire coaching staff is grasping at straws to keep their job . Note he did begin to run the ball when the season was essentially lost. No doubt Sawyer has been a major plus for Baylor, both on and off the field, but his ability to read defenses will have to improve substantially to make it at the next level. Too many times he seemed to make up his mind that he was going to his primary receiver, even when it meant throwing into double coverage. A really good receiver corps really helped his stats and bailed him out. Too many picks were on him and not the receivers. I am not convinced Spav's route designs helped Sawyer to be successful either.

I'm hoping a good team with good QB coach will take him, pay him some bucks and fix all the damage this doofus staff did to him. He will be a great representative of the school.

I'd love to see the Texans spend a late pick on him as a developmental player

I think everyone (including myself) under estimated the impact Dawson Pendergrass's out-for-the-season injury had on the outcome of the entire 2025 season. The 2024 running game (especially 2nd half of season) was a 2-headed monster with Pendergrass and Washington. I've not heard a single word on Pendergrass's current status.

Sawyer's mechanics regressed this past season - his accuracy and timing were inconsistent from play to play, varying in quality from from longtime NFL starter to CFB 3rd stringer. Beyond that, his release point/launch angle was really low for a guy his height and he had more batted balls than lots of QBs far shorter than him.

Those issues all cropped up in lots of plays wherein he was not being pressured heavily. While folks have rightly pointed out that our lack of run game hurt Sawyer in many ways, one of the indirect 'benefits' was that opposing teams often only had only cursory pressure, preferring to have blanket coverage in the secondary...so Sawyer had plenty of time to work as often as not. It is to our WRs and TEs credit that they were open so often against those pass coverages...flipside, on so many of those opportunities the miss was on Sawyer.

I think he's a stellar young man with immense talent. I think the right NFL situation for Sawyer is one where he can sit as a backup to the right guy for 2-3 years and soak up knowledge up while building his toolkit with a dedicated full-time QB coach:

Sawyer is such a good dude and great ambassador for BU that hate being critical of him...but he seemed to become more and more inaccurate in the last half of the season missing wide open guys too often.

We didn't see that last year... I don't know what the deal was. I don't know if the worse our defense got the more he felt pressure to try and be perfect or what?

Well, NFL will show level of talent. They dont care, hope he does well in combine and pro workouts, that is what will turn heads.
