Fan First Era Begins Now

Winning is the primary driver of attendance and fan engagement, no duh. A consistently winning team can have a mediocre game day experience & pricey concessions/merch and still keep filling the stadium. And yes, lots of locals (and non-alums across the nation) became "Baylor" fans because of Art Briles' style of football.

Great sports memories often come from special things happening on the field. But that's not the only way that special memories are created and generational fandom is built...otherwise a significant percentage of pro sports franchises would not have generational fans. But they all do. Because game day experiences matter too.

Looking back at '08-'10, there was a lot of hope among the alums and students, and the locals were starting to get engaged more again...but Baylor wasn't yet anything to brag about with 4-8, 4-8, and 7-6 seasons. But
concessions at the Case were cheap back in '08-'13*, and the tailgate scene was opening up...those two combined to get locals more interested before the magic of '11 and the winning that followed.

Cheap food (and yes cheap beer) would go a long way towards making McLane a Fall Saturday destination for locals who are otherwise going to be ambivalent about Baylor football. If the concessions are relatively expensive and there's no real tailgating scene and there's not much active fan engagement especially for kids...then the locals definitely aren't coming.

But Doug clearly gets all this, and is working feverishly to change the whole game day culture. Some of y'all whining about him doing that as though he's doing it instead of working on improving the on-field/on-court products is stupid, frankly. He's definitely doing both.
___
*by the time McLane opened, Baylor was such a hot ticket that higher concessions there weren't a deal breaker.

So now the concessions will run out of food in the 2nd quarter and not the 3rd.

And I agree with an above post, if the execution is not flawless, then that will be disappointing. They have six months to get this planned and to get this fan experience correct. GET IT RIGHT. OVERPLAN if you have to. And like most new stadiums, or new programs, have an event before the season starts to try out all the new stuff and work out the kinks before the first game. I think George Strait was the first event at Jerry World. And then they had a soccer event as well before the preseason started.

I'm tired of showing up to a game, and the whole stadium staff and concession staff are clueless on the temperature, the attendance, the opponents fan base, etc. It's like they have no idea there is a game, and they just put something together and hope it works. Embarrassing to take either an opposing fan or a non-Baylor fan to a game, and "show off" this game day experience.

I don't disagree with the sentiment of getting "Joe Waco" more involved, but that is not the path for a better fan engagement in my opinion. Baylor has literally been giving away tickets for free to "Joe Waco" for years and still can't fill the stadium. Why? Because we sucked. Doesn't matter the price...nobody wants to see their team not be competitive. Don't see how this is any different. And nothing against "Joe Waco", but they aren't going fund NIL and facility improvement down the road. They'd be better off trying to figure out how to win the trust back the alumni base...not Joe Waco.

Looking back in the last 15-20 years, there was only one thing that resulted in a full, rocking stadium and an absolutely fantastic fan experience that I would pay for every time. WINNING!! 2008 when RGIII whooped TAMU, RGIII's heisman moment against OU, Bryce Petty whooping UT in the throwback uniforms, Seastrunk shredding #1 KState, the tackle at the 1-yard line against OSU to win the Big 12. The memory is the fan experience, not the price of hot dogs.

All those teams and players had a chip on their shoulder. Baylor football lacks identity. The tone at the top has got to change before I'm renewing my season tickets... (which I've had since 2013-2025.... not renewing in 2026) ... Fire CDA.

I agree, but unfortunately, CDA isn't the top.

Fix the cluster **** created with parking around the stadium.....such a joke...

what cluster****? If you have a parking pass then enter the gate for your lot. Whats cluster **** about that? Baylor has 1 of the best parking set ups around a stadium in the big 12.

You have 4 large lots at the stadium, 1 at the law school right across the river, q at dutton garage just a little further than that, parking at ferrell center and speight garages with a free shuttle tonthe law school area, remote handicap parking with a shuttle that drops you off in front of gates, and then free parking downtown with a free shuttle. Oh and another lot across mlk the last 3 seasons.

Then add in private owned options: brazos parking, oso easy parking at corner of orchard and mlk, and numerous homes and churches in the adjacent neighborhood selling available parking all at reasonable prices and very reasonable distance, especially compared to the rest of the big 12.

So what exactly are you mad about

I don't care about the spaces, I care about the inefficiency in actually leaving the stadium pre- / post- games. Local COPS deliberately hold up anyone parked at a non-baylor stadium lot until the Baylor lot is empty.

You should take that up with the cops since they arent employed by Baylor nor directed by them. Those are all surrounding area departments working overtime.

The growing number of empty seats in McLane would suggest his action is being replicated, and reason would suggest that for many the reason is the same.

I'm not trying to prove a point by not renewing season tickets. I'm not renewing season tickets because the value proposition doesn't appeal to me. If I believed Baylor leadership prioritizes winning (the ole' chip on the shoulder days of CAB and the "process" of CMR demonstrated that), then I'll sign on again to make the drive from Houston every other weekend.... Otherwise, I'll catch maybe 1 game in Waco with discounted secondary market tickets.
