I believe from a previous article, some of these guys made over $250k gaming. I'm sure Baylor is paying them to play.

Dude doesn't realize that it's not 1994 anymore. You absolutely can make money from playing video games. Also, these dudes are presumably at Baylor to get a degree, so it's kind of a weird flex. Back when I was in school, these were the dudes that were getting programming and software engineering jobs making six figures right out of school

Esports has 640 million regular viewers worldwide. At current rates of growth, professional video gaming will overtake most other traditional sports within the lifetime of many people on this board. It is already the most commonly watched sport among Gen Z.

One of the biggest Esports promoters in the world, Faisal bin Bandar al Saud, is a member of the Saudi royal family and a loyal Baylor grad. He is the BMD for Baylor Esports and is determined to make them the top program in the U.S.

Baylor has a golden opportunity to get in on the ground floor of the next big wave in collegiate sports. This won't matter to the old folks on this board, but it matters greatly for the future of Baylor Athletics as an institution.

He is from Saudi Arabia and attended Baylor at the peak of our football program's ineptitude (early 2000s). I would guess that he isn't, though I don't know for sure.

Faisal bin Bandar is on the board of the Global Esports Federation and has donated many millions of dollars to the sport. In terms of the sheer number of dollars he can throw around, he is likely Baylor's single biggest potential BMD in any sport.

I'm not sure, but I know for a fact that we are rapidly expanding our program. I'm a friend of a friend of the Baylor Esports head coach, which is how I know about this.

You're joking, but it isn't the craziest idea ever proposed.

The Saudi royal family knows very well that their fossil fuel wealth won't last forever. Like Dubai, they are trying to diversify their economy against the day when oil prices start their ultimate death spiral. Controlling large swathes of the global entertainment industry is a major part of their long-term plans. LIV Golf is the most famous of their investments, but they have other irons in the fire.

If the House of Saud wanted to branch into American football, the alma mater of a prince with an entertainment portfolio is one of the most obvious choices.
