Unless we get smoked 73-0 - Dave is not getting fired. DJ is either gonna run/pass all over Auburn or he will be running for his life. I like our new DC. I think Baylor wins this one...

Quite a few Big 12 teams would have lost in 2025 to Auburn, and it's very likely the same would be true in 2026, and Aranda needing to be fired doesn't change the fact that Baylor would have been bowl eligible in 2025 if it had scheduled Oregon State instead of Auburn like Texas Tech and Houston. As a result, the end result of the 2026 version of that game should have a minimal impact on the decision regarding and timing of a firing.

Auburn was a terrible team that eventually fired their HC last year. Stop with the gaslighting.

That doesn't refute anything stated above.

Given that (a) the top teams in the Big 12 beat no one of relevance out of conference in the regular season and/or in the CFP; (b) Arizona State, who tied at #4 in the Big 12 standings and who beat Texas Tech, lost to Mississippi State, who tied at #13 in the SEC standings* and (c) Auburn's performance in losses in SEC play**, there is enough there to reasonably conclude that Auburn would likely have defeated quite a few Big 12 teams regardless as to the status of Auburn's coach. To rephrase, whether or not Auburn was a good team nationally is a fundamentally different question as to whether Auburn would have found success vs much of the Big 12.

*How did the top 6 Big 12 teams in the 2025 Big 12 standings perform out of conference in the regular season plus CFP? They defeated 4-8 Stanford (BYU), 3-9 UCLA (Utah), and 2-10 Oregon State (Texas Tech and Houston); Arizona defeated 6-6 Kansas State, who lost to 6-6 Army, out of conference; and Arizona State, as noted above, lost to 5-7 Mississippi State.

**Auburn lost to Georgia by 10; A&M by 6; and Missouri, Kentucky, Oklahoma, Alabama and Vanderbilt by 7 each.

I was banging this drum all last season: a terrible team loses all those games by blowouts (cf. the 2023 Baylor Bears whose only 1 scores losses to decent teams were vs WVU and Utah), and Auburn was not a terrible team last season.

They were a very talented roster with a coach on a flaming hot seat because it was his second stint at the school after having 'resigned' amidst a scandal that included having to vacate a bunch of wins and Freeze himself hiring hookers with the company cell phone.

A lot of coaches would have survived last year based on how close they played a bunch of really tough opponents. Frisky Freeze, though? not so much.

yep correct...I meant to write "in the conference" but didn't do a single editing pass...SE365 has provided quick respites from an extra busy period at work - my already crappy posting is defo suffering for it lol.

My point stands though, Hugh had already ****ed up in a way that made his leash shorter than most other coaches would get.

Lmao what!??? Holy mental gymnastics

Hugh Freeze was by 15 - 19 in three seasons. 6 - 16 in SEC play, and had his worst outing his last season.

He was fired because he sucked. It's simple.

And this time last year, the usual suspects were talking about how terrible he is, and how Dave is totally gonna roll out some 'new wrinkles' in his defense to confuse him. Lol. Dave's defense made him look like Lamar Jackson

I'd like to believe that we could beat Auburn on the road, but I just don't see it happening. They upgraded their coach and quarterback, and that will be hard to overcome on the road. My guess is that we "only" lose by a couple scores, and it somehow gets spun as a major moral victory for Dave. The same thing happened last year

Alternative perspectives are always welcome, however, lobbing insults is worth about as much as the total points that Texas Tech scored on Oregon last season.

To be clear here, Massey, S&P+, FPI, and Sagarin FBS rating systems all peg 2025 Auburn as a top 32 (or better) team, so, unless someone here is claiming that those systems are off base by referring to a series of alternate systems that are contrary to them, it is what it is.

I was not commenting on the substance of the thread, just observing that the drop that landed on your head was not recent.

As to the matter at hand, Auburn as about a top 40 team makes perfect sense to me. Our problem is we were not nearly that good.

Has everyone forgotten that Auburn hired the coach away from USF to replace Freeze? The Auburn team we play on the road in 2026 is probably going to be substantially better than the one we faced at home in 2025. Klanderman's defense is in for an immediate stress test.

"Auburn football has secured a significant influx of transfers from South Florida (USF), primarily driven by new head coach Alex Golesh, who previously led the USF program. As of January 2026, 13 players from USF have committed to Auburn, forming a core part of the Tigers' 2026 transfer class.

Key USF Transfers to Auburn:
  • Byrum Brown (QB): The standout signal-caller led the FBS in total offense in 2025 with 3,158 passing yards and 1,008 rushing yards, joining Auburn after a stellar season under Golesh.
  • Keshaun Singleton (WR): USF's leading receiver in 2025 with 877 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns, he's expected to be the top target in Auburn's revamped receiving corps.
  • Chas Nimrod (WR): Former Tennessee transfer who played under Golesh at USF, bringing SEC experience and 466 receiving yards in 2025.
  • Jeremiah Koger (WR): 597 receiving yards in 2025, a key contributor in USF's top-ranked offense.
  • Christian Neptune (WR): 325 receiving yards in 2025, known for his route-running and reliability.
  • Kory Pettigrew (WR): A rising sophomore with four years of eligibility, adds depth to the wide receiver group.
  • Jonathan Echols (TE): A 6-6 tight end with 109 yards and 3 touchdowns in 2025, capable as both a blocker and pass catcher.
  • Nykahi Davenport (RB): USF's leading rusher in 2025 with 612 yards and 7 touchdowns, now joining a deep backfield.
  • Cole Best (OL) and Cole Skinner (OL): Both former USF starters with strong PFF grades, bolstering Auburn's offensive line.
  • Fred Gaskin (SAF) and Gavin Jenkins (CB): Defensive additions from USF, bringing speed and playmaking ability to the secondary.
Strategic Impact:

The large USF contingent reflects Golesh's offensive philosophy and player development success. These transfers bring familiarity with the system, proven production, and competitive character. The Tigers are rebuilding their receiving corps after losing five top players, and the USF additionsespecially Brown and Singletonare expected to significantly elevate the offense in 2026."

Yep, Golesh is just a better HC than Sweet Davey Poo

We will probably lose to them then be inundated with staff articles about how Auburn is actually a CFB contender, and blah blah blah and how Frowning Dave needs more time with the new players/staff

I suspect this game is a wash due to new coaching staff and new D schemes to go with and new portal guys as well as Spav having to retool his O. What is of impact is the response to whatever happens in the Auburn game. There is no quick trigger for firing Aranda IMO, but I don't know what BU is expecting or looking for realistically. "Better play" is deceptively vague which allows for lots of room for crawfishing around. Surely McNamee and Livingstone have put down unavoidable some hard targets for this year to go with Arsnda's "best case" scenarios.

How are the ticket renewals going at this point!
