Baylor offensive lineman Yakiri Walker had his temporary injunction denied on Wednesday; KWTX’s Tommy Witherspoon first reported the news.

An expedited trial date is set for early October which means he could play some of the season. If he wins the trial then he could play a portion of the season and collect the $200,000 in revenue sharing funds from Baylor continegent on him being eligible.

Walker was expected to be Baylor’s starting center after the 6-foot-2, 295-pound prospect started all 13 games for Memphis last season, with all 881 of his snaps coming at the center position.

“Yakiri gives us leadership and confidence because he’s been in that position,” head coach Dave Aranda said of the Memphis transfer at Big 12 Media Days. “We have other guys in there that can play that position. There’s good depth at center, but we’re stronger with him in there.”

Walker spent the 2024 season at Colorado, where he played just three snaps the entire year. Prior to that, he played three seasons at Connecticut, starting 12 games. Walker attended DeSoto High School and was a three-star prospect in the 2021 recruiting class.

Baylor graduate Ryan Luna was the judge who denied the request.

Yep. I'm also amazed that an undersized, mid tier center commands 200k in revenue sharing for a one year rental. How in the world is that sustainable for a program like Baylor?

Offensive line really does not look good. I foresee Lagway having to run for his life a lot

I'm shocked we didn't spend more based on how little Davy poo likes to make dumb decisions.

So how many more years does sweet Dave get now since his starting center can't play?

I need to add another option to my excuse Plinko game. It will now be:

injuries

lack of money for talent

scapegoat coordinator

eligibility

The NCAA and judge is wrong here. If he redshirted in 2021 and then only played three snaps in 2024 for mental health whatever they should grant an additional year. I honestly think Baylor will shift an OG and be fine but this unfair treatment based on other players cases for this young man

From what I read, I think there was some skepticism about the mental health excuse from the judge. It sounds like he was also being beat out for his position at Colorado. Frankly, we saw something somewhat similar a couple years ago with the Toledo quarterback (he was so bad I can't even remember his name) where he got injured and was replaced by Robertson, and then magically the injury lasted all season when Robertson immediately looked significantly better, and the guy got his medical red shirt

IDK, ultimately I just wish there was black-and-white consistency with these things and not deciding case by case

I wasn't there. But did a CU coach come and testify that it was really that he was being beat out of his starting role or was there an expert present to refute he was having some mental health issues based on his expertise?
