The point is, I'm as much as fan as any of you are. I'm also not spending the $ or emotional energy this season on a product that appears to be sub-standard again for the sixth time in seven years.
Love the Bears. Will mostly cheer from home this year. Doesn't make me less of a fan. I'm not a fan to impress my fellow fans anyway.
The bottom line is that people in the aggregate are going to do what makes sense for them. We can't guilt people into spending time and money, at least not very effectively.
I'm in a similar spot. Been a Baylor fan for almost 50 years, through all the stuff. Spent God knows how much time and money on it. Been a BBF member since the year I got out of school. Have at times given small amounts, at times even given Championship Club level. Have also traveled to many, many games. I'm still in BBF and with season tix for football and mbb, but at a much lower level, and frankly that's only because I currently live in Waco. If I move (likely pretty soon), then I'll probably drop it altogether unless something major happens. For me, it's not so much the money as it is the time investment.
The reasons are various, but include (i) Baylor showed us with the Briles fiasco and other events that Baylor leadership is an undependable (to put it nicely) fiduciary of athletics (this is relevant to how much time and money you want to spend there); (ii) many of my friends who used to buy season tix with us and come to games have quit, for similar reasons as expressed on this thread, which just makes it less fun; (iii) the current state of college athletics with itinerant players makes it less interesting.
If Baylor wants people to buy in, they're going to have to give us reasons to do so. They have before, they might again, but right now frankly it's just not that much fun.
