Nice win for SMU

Had to quit at the end of third quarter last night but just finished watching the 4th quarter of SMU this morning. They looked great but on the other hand FSU looked lousy. The announcers left no doubt they do not think Norvell is a good fit. Constantly criticized his play calling.

I thought Jennings was one helluva QB and had some great receivers. SMU has speed. They passed the ball around to a log of speedy receivers. They played good D too. Of all the old SWC teams, SMU was screwed the most by the formation of the Big 12.

Here's hoping the Pony Express is back. Entertaining. They picked a real winner in Rhett Lashlee. Malzahn protege.

I would say they were screwed the most by the crack down on cheating in the SWC, which of course fell on a small private school and not a big state school. They were terrible when the B12 formed having not won a conference game in 2 years (still recovering from the death penalty).

I am impressed that the AP kicked Michigan out of the Top 25. In most years, they'd have probably moved up even with a narrow win.

SMU was not even in the conversation about joining the B12. What they did or we did after is not really relevant to when the B12 was formed. They took the 4 best teams based on recent history. Houston had an argument, but frankly everyone hated UH at the time and they had just gotten off probation. It was also an academic light weight commuter school at the time, and I think UT and A&M were happy to get away from it and join a conference with more state flagship schools.

The 4 left out schools (SMU, TCU, Rice, and UH) when the B12 was formed also all had consistent poor attendance issues unless the opponent brought most of the crowd. Granted to some extent we had those issues as well - but we were at the time still in decidedly better shape than those four.
