Wife and I stayed in the same hotel along with the Baylor team and its fans. There were quite a few Baylor fans at this hotel, so I thought a ton had made the trip. But at the game itself was probably at least 9 to 1 - Auburn - Baylor. Baylor fans were nothing but class. Never once saw any sort of aggression either way.
We bought amazing seats at the 25 yard line - Section 130C Row 16. $120 each @ 2:12 PM EDT - (80 minutes before the the 3:30 kickoff - I was checking prices every 10 minutes. If I bought something similar 2 hours earlier it would have $40 more for the pair. This included unlimited food (pizza, burgers, ice cream, popcorn, pretzels, wings, soda, bottled water, etc). We didn't know this until we got in the stadium and went to take our seats
I thought we were gonna go in and DESTROY Baylor. Baylor looked like a good football team that is very well coached. Everyone knows Baylor has a good OC - I thought a few of his play calls...he tried to look a little too cute. When Baylor kicked the FG, they had a 13 play drive and got down to the 7 yard line. 1st down run (3 yard gain), 2nd and 3rd down pass. Both incomplete. The 2nd down play Lagway threw it through the uprights. Horrible play call. I felt like Baylor would have scored if they just stayed on the ground.
But the OC had some amazing play calls. That 4th down 10 on Baylor's 36 yard line, they got 28 yards. Lagway made a nice throw - had several very nice throws. Another of my favorite parts of the game, Lagway made a perfect throw to #3 J Porter with 90 seconds left in the game and the ball hit his hands and he dropped it. Happy as an Auburn fan, but I felt bad for the kid And the very next play, the OC and Lagway went back to #3 and completed a 27 yard pass to get the ball down to the 4 yard line.
On the other side of the ball, I had no doubt Auburn's offense would have its way with Baylor's defense. The opposite was true. Your new DC was a great hire and might be what saves Aranda's job. Watch Golesh's post game press conference. Golesh explained it perfectly. Your DC gave us what he wanted, and we only got what he gave us.
And the 2 point play call at the end of the game, I agreed with him at the time. I thought it was the right play call. If Lagway had thrown a better ball, and placed it in front of the runner, Baylor would have won by a point. And at that point Baylor had momentum. It was a great play call and if I was Aranda, I would have gone for two as well.
There's reason to be optimistic if you're a Baylor Fan. FYI - In the country, Auburn is 10th in career snaps, 12th in career starts, & 8th in offensive snaps. I hope Lagway gets healthy ASAP, & I hope you win the rest of your games.
