Can someone explain why the board mods are permitting this racist "DEI" moniker to continue?

DA was a hot commodity and at the top of all coaching lists when he was hired. If the insinuation is that he has been retained for DEI reasons, by all means, provide evidence of such assertion that refutes the much more obvious explanation that we couldn't afford the buyout to fire him.

I oppose DEI policies on the grounds that they are mostly discriminatory. But there is more than enough fair game to attack about DA's coaching record at Baylor without resorting to making this about his race.

Just stop.

The DEI reference is not about Dave's heritage. That doesn't matter. If he wins, nobody cares even if he's human.

The DEI is the current president of Baylor meddling in the athletic affairs when she has no idea what she's doing.

So much criticism of Linda yet it is always about DEI. The real problem is her academic background is barely enough to qualify as a Professor.

He is still around because we did not have enough money to buy him out, and go get a new head coach, and fund our NIL. It has nothing to do with whether he is Mexican or whatever.

This. If someone posts something relating to DEI in the context of Dave, it's more likely than not racially motivated. Those individuals would be better served by just admitting that they're racist instead of pretending like someone expressing a desire for Dave to be fired and someone using racially motivated language to describe him/Linda are the same thing because they're not.

He was a disastrous athletic director for Baylor ... on a number of levels.

All of our most important programs descended into mediocrity (or worse, in the case of baseball) under his watch.

Racists gonna racist.

They flash their ass and show their true agenda. That is what has been behind a lot of the Aranda hate in this board. They can't turn around and deny it when they often admit it.

Most of us want him gone simply because he's a bad coach, not because he's Mexican or whatever. I don't care about his race. Red, yellow, black, white, I just want somebody who is an actual winner leading our team

He's been a winner before. He has a talented staff. This will be a great season.

Our problem is what to do after two winning seasons? I'm not sure what Dave Aranda is. I know what he ain't. He ain't deserving of racism every week by a fan. This has to stop.

That's ok if you ignore me. We can't allow a fan to continue to make racist attacks on our minority football coach. That speaks badly of you Mr good intention. He's placing his attitude towards a qualified hire into the global marketplace.

I don't know who the next"it" coach is. Why wouldn't they look at us and pass based on this nonsense.

That's weak sauce. In the last 25 years, we only won consistently with Briles. Only one minority head coach.

Show me others being called DEI or having their qualifications questioned.

Aranda is guilty of mismanaging his quarterbacks. He possibly relies too much on "the charts" when his game time skills are required. None of that makes slurring him acceptable.

Agreed. It's a free message board. The owners of the site don't police it. If I have to hear horrible hate speech on this site from the left about how it's OK to murder somebody on a college campus for saying that homosexuality is wrong, I'm definitely not going to get in your corner when you start crying about somebody making a joke about a minority coach that gets paid millions to not win games. Like you said, ignore it or get thicker skin

Agree that Aranda was no DEI hire

He was qualified and proved it season one at BU.

(We can all debate why he has failed to live up to potential over the past several years....but he was qualified when we hired him)

Now that might be more true than the idea they just hired him for being a non-White person.

I do think the current administration is race and gender obsessed and very worried about bad PR around such issues.

I don't think that Baylor hired Dave for DEI reasons. But it could be one of many reasons they have not decided to send him on to his next job yet.

I wonder how many minority alumni at Baylor are actively writing Dave NIL checks to buy him better talent. Ultimately, we are not relevant enough for anybody to give a crap if we get rid of him. I could maybe see somebody trying to raise a stink if we got rid of him after his first bad season, but it's year seven and we're below 0.500

No one is afraid to fire Aranda. The problem is do you fire him after he goes 9-3?

He's a head scratcher. He's gonna go 9-3 this year. Might go 5-6 next year. 9-3, 10-2, 7-5?

IMO, he still has a QB problem after Lagway.

The good news? That's not today's problem. I'm gonna enjoy this season.

Everyone here knows the actual reason Dave hasn't been fired. It's about the buyout and money.

Anyone trying to make it about anything else -- especially skin color -- needs to lay off the Fox News.

But whether he has earned termination or not with his record to this point (most of us would agree he has), he wasn't fired last offseason and he's getting an opportunity to coach this year's team.

I refuse to let my frustration with Dave cause me to root against the success of this team. As unlikely as it is, it would still likely be most beneficial long-term if Dave figured it out and we were able to get back to winning with this staff. A change, while potentially necessary, will come with its own set of complications and challenges. I'd just as soon see CEO Dave succeed so long as clearly qualified coordinators are allowed to do their jobs unencumbered.
Robert Wilson
How long do you want to ignore this user?
This is the correct take.

Dave is still here because we are broke. And, still, the best thing that could happen here is that Dave figures it out and has an awesome season, and we roll forward.

I say that, as a person who believes we should have already fired him. But I will not be reduced to rooting against Baylor, and I ******* sure won't be reduced to thinking this has something to do with the color or race or ethnicity of Dave's parents, because who gives a ****. I don't even know what he is, nor do I give a *****

If our end of season options could be: a) buy Aranda out, 2) keep him but let the coordinators run everything AND add 1-2 mil to the NIL budget, I'd take b any day. The roster is more important at this point.

I disagree. I understand opportunity cost is a thing, but at some point, you have to admit that we're effectively putting money into a pocket that has holes in it. I don't see the floodgates of NIL donations opening up anytime soon with Dave As coach, that's the problem. The big money folk have kind of made up their mind about him. I think having a good season this year (good equals nine or 10 wins minimum) might help restore some trust with the donors, but who really knows. More talent is not going to make the team execute better, capitalize on turnovers, play with more energy etc. - those are coaching issues.

I understand the logic behind the idea of saying, "well, the head coach is meh, but maybe we can make up for that by having decent coordinators and bringing in more talent", but ultimately, our donors have figured out that our potential is always going to be lower than it could be with this guy as captain of the ship

In all seriousness:
- Calling Dave a DEI hire is stupid: he was a hot commodity when hired
- We made the mistake of a lot of schools and gave him an extension after he one XII because LSU was sniffing around
- After seven years, Dave has not seemed to have figured it out ... every year comes with massive changes
- We might not have afforded his buyout last year, but if Mack had not been banging the MISD principal and gotten fired we might have Morris now

My belief is Rhoades was a boss who suckes the life force out of you. I'm interested to see what Aranda can do under new leadership.

I agree on Rhoades sucking the life out of the coaches. I know few on this board are WBB fans but as an example the sudden difference in our wbb teams recruiting with the new AD is amazing and it could be the same for other sports.

None of us know for sure what numbers to believe when it comes to Aranda's buyout or NIL spending this year. Sorry, but your friend who "knows a guy" in the athletic department doesn't know the real number.

However, if we're really spending $15-20 million on NIL instead of putting it towards a buyout, it's the definition of throwing good money after bad.

I'd rather see us spend $0 on NIL and put every penny towards a buyout. What good is a 5 star QB with a coach on life support?
