Baylor fifth-year senior defensive lineman Devonte Tezino suffered a season-ending leg injury in Saturday’s contest against Prairie View A&M, head coach Dave Aranda confirmed post-game.
“We lose him for the season,” Aranda said. “It was the same thing that happened to Travion Barnes a year ago. It’s really unfortunate that we’re having guys break ankles. It sucks. Tez was playing the best football of his life.”
A Panther offensive lineman cut-blocked Tezino on the second play from scrimmage; he immediately called for the trainers and was later carted off. It’s a brutal blow for Baylor’s defense, as the Killeen native looked poised for a breakout season after posting two sacks and tipping a pass that led to an interception in the season-opener against Auburn.
Last fall, Tezino battled injuries, but he played in all 12 contests with seven starts and finished with 24 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, a sack and a pass break-up. He’s posted 56 tackles across 29 games in his Baylor career.
The Bears are especially deep on the defensive line, but have lost two starting players — Tezino and safety Jacob Redding — to season-ending injuries already.

I agree. Nice that the opponent gets a nice payday for them, but I'm not sure how much matchups like these help either side as far as preparation for the season. But then you never know. There have been plenty of these that turn out to be a lot tougher than expected.

You hit on the fact that about the only real "benefit" to games like this is a (probably) much needed nice payday for the FCS schools. Sure, the FBS schools normally get an easy win with opportunities to play reserves for a portion of the game, but even then if the win turns out to be anything short of a blowout embarrassment it ends up feeling like a loss. As far as this game with PVAM goes, I even feel a bit letdown that we didn't at least break 50 against them - with or without our starting QB. Bottom line, the downside of games like this anymore feels like it exceeds the upside so I too wouldn't mind seeing them discontinued.
