What are they odds they fire Norvell, and hire a new coach and AD before we get rid of Dave?

Norvell's days are numbered. I would guess they are thinking in terms of hiring a new AD who can then be responsible for hiring a new coach.

I suspect that's also what Baylor's AD is going to be thinking about unless Dave pulls a pretty amazing turnaround.

Firing either of them in week 2 seems a bit silly.

He was fired because of a disconnect with administration and boosters on spending.

Or for a disconnect between the plug for the stadium lights and the wall outlet....

Pretty strong odds he's gone barring an unlikely monster season the rest of the way.

I work with a big FSU guy. He's a booster and very tied in with the program. He also knows a ton of folks that are tied to FSU's mega boosters.

FSU would have had to pay $84mm to fire Norvell and his entire staff last year. There was zero appetite to do that, so they kicked the can down the road to this year. The top end P4 rosters cost between $20-30mm this year, above and beyond the $20.5mm negotiated in the House Settlement.

The issue for the FSU boosters is several-fold:

1) The AD thought that FSU should not spend on the football roster over the House Settlement figure.

2) While the AD did not hire Norvell, he was the one who extended him after their season a few years ago, even though he was negotiating against essentially no one.

3) Money to the football program has completely dried up this year. One of FSU's big boosters actually diverted his annual donation to the golf program, which allowed them to sign Tiger Woods's son and a couple of other top prospects. The main boosters are holding off opening their wallets until there is a clear direction with the program (i.e., how much the buyout is).

4) One of the reasons it cost so much to buy out the FSU football staff is that they gave large multi-year contracts to their assistants last off-season to try and turn things around. See: Gus Malzahn leaving UCF as HC to become OC at FSU. He retired after they went 5-7 last year. Boosters are big mad that the former AD allowed them to commit to so much guaranteed money over multiple years to the staff.

5) Unless Norvell runs the table from here, he is gone. Period. The only thing that remains is the FSU administration trying to finagle things to reduce the buyout. One thing floated was getting Norvell to resign, as that would void his buyout. The pitch there is, "things are so bad that you'll be tanking your chances to ever be a HC again at any level if you ride this into the ground at the end of the season. Resign now, and at least you can make it back to a HC role at some point."

6) Jimbo Fisher is expected to have some interest in the FSU HC role, and there is some interest from certain boosters in seeing him return. He knows the program, yes, but the main appeal is he would come very cheap...like sub-$2mm. Thanks to his idiotic contract at A&M, he gets his full buyout no matter what, with no offset for other jobs. So, Jimbo would be one of the highest-paid coaches if he's back on the sidelines, but FSU would barely be paying any of it.

I really don't see Jimbo back as HC at all. Not after the aggy debacle, and not at his age.

He would be a disastrous hire for Florida State. I hope they do it.
