If Aranda gets the blame for losses, does he now get credit?

We're just a 2-point conversion from being undefeated.
Props to Coach Aranda, IMO.

I really put zero weight into the "one play away from undefeated" argument, because that's just not how football works. That said, we are having a good season so far, and I've seen very few people that haven't given him credit for beating Colorado and Arizona state. let's hit the brakes a bit before we start handing Dave trophies. A lot of football left to be played. Beat TCU

Missed FG's contributed as well. Froggy just daring us to go for 4th and 10 all day.

Agree with you Pecos 45 , head coach gets credit and blame but coordinators and position coaches have a large part in outcome of games! Last but not least the players do their share to determine the outcome of games! Go Bears! Beat the frogs!

Well, had the Bears made that 2-point conversion they woulda been undefeated. At least from where I'm sitting.
I have to also give props to the O-Line.
That dude from Colorado (Santana) played the entire game in Tech's backfield, but I don't recall his number being called when BU took on the Buffs.
Got great blocks against ASU, which electrified our run game.

See you at the TCU game!!!

Yeah, I have been worn out on all the "take away five plays, and..."

Every team can say that in any close game.

You win or lose those games by showing up at those crucial times, getting the crucial decisions right, being prepared for all of those moments. Those things add up on the scales of "luck."

The past several years have been a result of missing out on way too many of those moments to stand up and get those things right.

There actually aren't that many teams that are literally about five inches from being undefeated. That's why it's mentioned as frequently as it is by those outside the Baylor program.

I don't really care about the record. How did they really look in all of these games? How good were their opponents, really?

Other than thrashing Arizona State, it's not terribly impressive. And ASU isn't that great.

Baylor still hasn't faced a really good P4 team.

I'm not saying they aren't good. I'm just saying tap the breaks on this undefeated stuff and look at the overall perspective. What does it even matter if they were? Look at who Baylor's foes thus far have played, and how they fared against them. Sure, with luck they could be 5-0 right now. But that's just the record, and it doesn't really mean anything at this point. Baylor has only played two of the worst teams in the Big 12 thus far.

We don't know how good Baylor is. None of these games were a great indicator. We're gong to find out in the coming weeks.

I hope they keep progressing in the right direction and go 11-1. I'm not quite ready to bet on that happening. It's a long season.
Put it on paper.

So far so good. But a nighttime home game against our biggest rival, with a fan base on the verge of getting back on the wagon is the type of game Aranda excels in losing. But I'll be there piling for him!!!!

If they were 5-0 and lost to TCU to be 5-1, I wouldn't give a rat's ass about the record.

Beat TCU, that would be a fantastic step.

Then beat some better teams.

Aranda will get all the credit he deserves.

It's lame, and it makes us look like little brother screaming at older brother and his friends to be allowed to play Nintendo., especially when it's used in conjunction with complaints about us not being ranked, or complaints about why the SEC gets the benefit of the doubt.

If we were a foot away from beating Georgia, I would have more sympathy for the argument, but we're talking about Auburn. They aren't good

This is a good take. I get that certain people so so badly want to be able to say "I told you so" to those of us who have been critical of Dave, but let's wait until we get a little further in the season before we start that
Karab
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Baylor's opponents so far are 13-14 overall. Against P4 opponents, CU, ASU, and Auburn are 3-7 (one of those wins against Baylor).

Dave gets credit for losing to a mid P4 team and beating bad P4 teams so far.

He gets credit, but let's pump the brakes on the quality of these wins.
BluesBear
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Why would we give him credit for something he is being paid to do. If his job was dependent on win X number of games, then I'd give him credit for it wins over X. But that's not the case with Baylor.

Real credit is due to Coach K. We will see that this Saturday against TCU.
TinFoilHatPreacherBear
How long do you want to ignore this user?
He definitely gets credit. But we all know how credit works.

When someone has a low FICO credit score, it takes time to build up to a great credit score.

So as it is, he's had years of bum credit, so his low rated coaching FICO score (Football Intelligence, Culture, Operations ) - it's like a 300-500 credit score. It's gonna take a lot more than just a few wins for him to overcome his years of subpar coaching. He needs to show some serious improvement, and so far so good.

So if we have a great year, he'll get to keep his job and keep building. If we have a mediocre year, he should be gone. That's how credit works.

I'm very happy for what looks like a fun season, and I hope CDA and the Bears prosper, but I'm not sold on keeping CDA quite yet.

If DJ throws that ball just a little differently, or if the TE adjusts a little bit differently and makes that 2-point conversion to win that game...

Does that really mean Aranda is a better coach today?

It makes no difference.

A lot of things happened in that game to get to that point. The game is 60 minutes of clock. It isn't one split second of a ball hitting a guy's hand.

Baylor's outlook from that game was essentially positive, even in losing. It gave us some optimism about this team playing against similarly talented competition..

It could have gone either way a hundred different ways.

That's football.

From what I've seen, it's not even Baylor people talking about it. It's primarily people with no affiliation with our program, who aren't predisposed (as too many here are) to look for and find the cloud in every silver lining where Baylor football is concerned.

Let's beat a solid team before we start passing out too many gold stars. We've looked good against weaker competition. TCU has a strong D, but they aren't an overall good team. We should beat them. That being said, plenty of teams and their fans would love to be 5-1 after beating their primary rival. Put me in that camp.

We need to win all games going into Provo. Then we can discuss "good teams."

Dave does analyze and make changes. The problem has been that his adjustments are made once a year, after the season, not during games, in real time, when necessary. His mind cannot multitask nor is it able to change once locked in on a plan.
Was Spav's O finally unleashed because Dave is hands off?
Is the D finally better overnight because Dave is hands off?
It's not by accident.
Less Dave equals more wins, so, yes, Dave gets the credit.

There's no such thing as a good loss. We lost the Auburn game, which is why our record is 4-1 right now.

But it remains a literal fact that we're about four or five inches from being undefeated and ranked in the top 15 right now. I'm not sure why acknowledging that is such a big deal.

There most certainly is such a thing as a "good loss" in the eyes of the CFP committee. We are 4-1 at this point and don't belong in the top 25 IMHO; yet. Beat the toads and that may change. Sic'em!

In our situation, there's no such thing as a good loss. We either win the game or we don't.

Honestly, only the SEC, select teams in the Big Ten and Notre Dame have the privilege of losing more than one game with impunity. No one in the Big 12 is afforded that luxury. We either win or we don't -- and that's especially true for Baylor under Dave Aranda, who has long since exhausted his allotment of moral victories.

I give our DC a lot of credit for rebuilding our defense and instilling a toughness attitude. Klanderman has been a BIG PLUS.

I give our receivers & coaches credit for stepping up and making the plays. Especially the Oklahoma State transfer. He catches everything and plays with a toughness that inspires others.

As for Aranda, he still looks like a spectator who gets to stand on the sidelines.
