I supported Aranda. I'm no coach. But what turned me was that winning requires the right pass, right play call, right execution against Auburn or TCU and NEVER be in a position to lose to Kansas.

I'm excited to see what Klanderman has.

It worked out exactly the way it was meant to ... and likely the way it was always going to.

Dave, for all his many wonderful character qualities, wasn't a winning head coach. That's why he/we didn't win.

You're probably right, but it simply didn't happen.

Next coach up.

Or better game planning and decision making, and it never comes down to a foot or less.

You're right. He probably would still be coaching. But even if we were 6-1, there would still be rightful consternation in light of all the mistakes made with time management and playcalling/situational calls., Basically the car would still be a clunker when examining under the hood. We would have had to wait until the end of the season to make a change as the reality would have finally sunk in that we are not a top team in the Big 12 after Tech and Houston beat us to a pulp.

I actually think it works out better like this since the reality has already been faced and the can isn't kicked down the road a few weeks.

Yeah, do you think he gave any of the money back to help the program? Nope. Seen posts here talking about 4040 record compared to other coaches. No other coach walked in with talent so fully-loaded to win the B 12. We had a record six players drafted in 2022 all recruited by Rhule. Which is really the only year he did anything. Should've have honorably left this place after last year. No class.

Excellent observation. I really wish he had succeeded buy many of his strongest defenders here are outspoken leftists, and not necessarily that football knowledgeable

Of course - a 6-1 coach does not get fired. But Aranda put us in a position to lose.

The OP is correct: he'd still be HC, but HC of a team whose play is meh to this point. Continue with that level of play and all bets are off in terms of firing. The tough guys are coming up. While there were scenarios where Baylor could, maybe would, have retained the man at 6-7 wins, the odds weren't good due to inept, uninspiring play totally unrelated to player effort. I don't know the AD but he strikes me as one who knows to not reinforce failure. It's moot now, though. All has been said and this is the end of the matter: Aranda was not going to keep his job.

Fan morale. While I understand this is a real thing, I really don't value catering to the loudest complainant on Twitter for just about any aspect of life. Just because someone shouts the loudest doesn't mean they know a damn thing. Everyone is an expert from the couch or the stands. That being said, I also understand that now you have taken away the biggest thing fans could complain about. The gameday fan experience has improved, and there is a concentrated effort to energize the fan base. This will now allow the fanbase to trade on the currency of hope. Blake Blackmar.
Maybe his firing will shut people. Up

I don't think people caterwauling had anything to do with the AD's action. It was the mute absence of fans who led this charge.

Waco1947 brings up a good point and question. We were so close to being 6-1, and the question is, would Dave still be our coach if that had happened? Yes, he would have, but probably just delaying the inevitable though. So, perhaps it is providence. Regardless, we needed a change. But, Dave is a great man.

Regarding hot takes. No one thinks the minority issue had anything to do with it, but the buyout sure did. But, I guess when you are a hammer everything is a nail, eh?

But, that is vulnerable for you to bring up the minority issue--Dave's intelligence which everyone in the country who knows anything about football agrees upon, his smarts--would be a minority quality I guess. Again, vulnerable of you to bring that up since he is much smarter AND richer...

Exclusive to this thread, I don't find either post to have been unreasonable. The opening post is likely correct, but "ifs and buts...". if Baylor is 6-1 Aranda is still employed. It just didn't go that way, for whatever reasons.

And it's an old adage, and a wise one, that you never let the fans choose your starting quarterback (or coach, or whatever).

From what I have read, fan experience has been improved in a lot of ways. Those are things that can be addressed in response to fan reaction.

But ultimately, you win more games, you get more fans, fewer complaints.
