ACU can scheme its way to offensive life against a team like Baylor. Particularly, in the first game of the season, defensive backs may not rotate properly, LBs and DEs may not pass off coverage and rush responsibilities. I won't be disappointed, therefore, if ACU has some offensive success, I won't be enraged.
On the other side of the ball, the situation is different. Much like last season, Baylor's OL should be able to simply shove ACU's defense out of the way. Last year, scoring against Liberty wasn't a problem. However, the fact that the yards came largely via scramble rather than a deliberate power game (particularly in the 4th quarter when it was obvious that controlling the clock would help a beleaguered defense) was a portent of the future.
Last year's debacle started against Liberty when the Liberty offense isolated a receiver against single coverage by design, then either popped a pass to him uncovered when the DB played bail, or threw on a line downfield when he played press. With no rotations or disguised coverages, the QB just played catch until his defense got a stop.
While Baylor's secondary did not ever worry the Big 12 OCs, they did quickly learn basic rotations absent in that first game. I'd like to see their continued growth, as well as cohesion between the groups.
