Goes back to post WW II days and not all that original (there was a whole prior thread on it a few days ago -- a former Disney artist did similar renderings of various animals for about 25-30 schools back in the day, including 5-6 bear heads for schools like BU, Cal, UCLA and 2-3 others).

However, our fans seem to love it. And we won a big game wearing those lids yesterday -- and the bear sorta looks like Texas Football's Dave Campbell.

It's my understanding Baylor paid for a brand study year ago, and the Sailor Bear had the broadest appeal. that was supported by actual data. I think it's nuts, but whatever.

that goofy little Irishman is a racial slur in cartoon form for Notre Dame, so what do I know.

I love sailor bear but i think those helmets look kinda stupid. That said, who gives a flying rip what i think??? What do the recruits think??? Thats what matters really

I am right there with you. Thought the Sailor Bear was a cute idea for homecoming. It was OK. Our identity will always be GOLD HELMETS with a BU. I wish I knew why Rhule doesn't like them.

I liked the idea of a sailor bear on the helmet as an alternate design. However, I would have picked just about every other color we have worn for that helmet before using white for a home game!

It's ghey and needs to die. I would be ok with the fierce grizzly bear head from the 60s and 70s.

Like Sailor Bear a lot as a logo on fan clothing, marketing etc. Does not need to be on helmets.Wear gold helmets with green interlocking BU on the sides. Not green, not white, not black, not gunmetal. Just gold.

I hope we never wear gold helmets again and sailor bear is on every uniform going forward in some way. Not because I'm overly attached to it, but I just think it's hilarious how worked up some of the 60+ crowd gets about the gold helmets.

I agree the bear face above is the best logo that should be on a helmet if there is to be one. Preferably in metallic gold on the black helmet or metallic gold on a green helmet.

Not sure if I mentioned it here or somewhere else sailor bear ended up better than I thought. I thought it was going to be yellow not metallic gold. The metallic gold made it cool. Still it would have been better on a black helmet or a green one. In short I don't mind sailor bear every once in a while if the kids like it, but might as well do a helmet with the other old bear logo as well.

We actually have bear logos even older than sailor bear. We have a couple different ones from the decades prior to the 40s in the 20th Century as well.
