I have seen many food discussions here but none about soup. I will list my three favorites here in Waco.

Best overall soup and best potato soup
Saltgrass Steakhouse. While my wife and I like their steaks, the main reason we go there is for the potato soup.

Best Chicken tortilla soup
BJs Restaurant. During the week we love their unlimited soup and salad bar.

Best chicken noodle soup
Jason's Deli

I am curious what other soup fans like best

My top three are

Olive Garden - Chicken Gnochi soup

Jasons- Broccoli cheddar soup

Panera - chicken and rice soup

My favorite soup is Vietnamese Pho

The best Tortilla soup in Waco is at Taqueria #9

The ginger soup at Bangkok Royale is absolutely sublime

The potato/leek soup at DI Campli's might be one of the best soups I've ever eaten.

Can we all agree the state of non-chain restaurant soups around here is pretty crappy? I do appreciate those recommendations above though!

Every winter I think about how a place with really good homemade soup options would kill it especially around lunch time. They would have to diversify to be able to hang during the summer time, but look at how busy Panera is every. single. day.

I'd have put Koko Ramen on the list but they're closed. There are places out there that are delicious. Several in Union Hall or other locales. Waco is the most stubborn town I've ever seen when it comes to breaking habit. There are literally still people in this town that think Uncle Dan's and Vitek's are the best BBQ around. They won't break their monotony, then they whine about not enough variety. Such a fickle place

I go to Olive Garden for their Bean Fajole (sp?). That with salad and breadsticks is a fine meal.

Huaco Eatery has a killer red (or green) posole.

Wisconsin Cheese soup at Schmaltz.

Lobster Bisque at 135 Prime used to be great. Subpar last two times I had it.

Going to miss Koko Ramem. Have not tried Hokkaido that opened in the old Pei Wei.

Edit: I loved the Bread Soup at Carino's. Couldn't believe they took it off the menu.

Have you noticed that the Wisconsin Cheddar cheese soup at schmaltze's has been the Soup of the Day everyday since 1986 or so? I once told Nelson( the owner) that the chalkboard should say " soup of the decade" instead of " soup of the day."
Nelson lacked a sense of humor that day and was unimpressed.

I agree that it is good, but it comes from a can, not that I care. The other soup…. the same.
But it is good and i might buy some tomorrow because I'm a Shmuck for things that taste good, and I'm alright with that.
