120 jobs??? Is this including construction jobs to build the restaurant, or does it take a Penn Station's worth of folks to staff one joint?

prolly included construction but a lot of fast food workers are part time so you staff more than you would think. Chic FIL A has a lot of people working at a time too.

Every Chick-fil-a with a drive through employs about 100 people at it. Combo of full-time and part-time.

I've noticed the drive-thru lines getting a little longer in the morning when I pass it.

suspect half of those employees are tasked with loading the trucks full of cash and taking it to the bank.

Well all that cash is sure as heck not going to the operator

Sure.

But you have average stand alone Chick-fil-a stores doing $8,500,000 in gross revenue a year...or more

And yet you have many operators out there making $200,000

chick fil a franchise agreements include a lot of control and cost coverage by corporate. Owners dont get to pick their site and dont put up any where near the same upfront costs let alone the franchise fee is tiny compared to most. there is a lot of trade off income wise with how a chick fil a franchise owner runs the store vs other franchises. Plus its hands on and they dont allow passive ownership either.

Chick fil a stores are no longer franchised and haven't been franchised in many, many years. They have operating partners. The operators have profit sharing; not equity. Chick fil a owns the real estate.

Yep,

At one point a single family in Houston had like 6 stores...that does not happen anymore.

[There is a lot that Chick-fil-A has done right. Earnings per store or AUV's (average unit volumes) are at the top of the QSR50 at 4.4 million. To put that into perspective the average unit volume of a Subway store is a paltry $422,000. So average Chick-fil-A locations earn literally 10 times what an average Subway earns!

You are not allowed to operate multi units or any other businesses. Recently we uploaded a video featuring a young college student and already owns and operates 3 franchises between classes and after school. We see many people building franchise empires either through multi-units or master franchising. With Chick-fil-A you can not own multi units. We have heard there are a few operators in the system that own a couple of stores but apparently franchisees need to be an owner for over 10 years and have your store in the top 1/3 to be considered. That's a slow empire!

You own nothing and build no equity. This one is huge. In a typical franchise arrangement after you have spent years working hard and building up a business when it's time to retire or move on you can typically sell that business or pass it on to your family. Successful franchises can be worth millions. In the case of Chick-fil-A however you own nothing and because you have no equity in the business you have nothing to sell. Ownership is always retained by corporate - not you.

Low earnings. Now Chick-fil-A is quite secretive regarding their facts and figures so information is difficult to come by, but it appears that the general consensus is that operators receive between 5%-7% of the gross. So let's put that in perspective at 5% if your store does 1 million you would receive $50,000, 2 million you receive $100,000, at 3 million $150,000 and at 4 million you would receive $200,000. So that would put the average store operator Chick-fil-A earnings at $200,000 per year at 5% and $240,000 per year at 6%. Now a quarter million a year is a pretty good salary, but from a franchise -ownership perspective only receiving 6% of the gross is quite low.]

I stopped there today, third time since they opened. I always get a 2 strip kids meal with a lemonade. Toy was the first time they got my order right so I hope that means they are working out the kinks.
